I said it earlier.
I agree with Schattner that he has no obligation to share profits with employees. Would it be great if he did? Sure. But it’s his company and his money to do what he wants with. He seems to live a lavish lifestyle and spends a ton doing what he and his family enjoy doing and makes no apology for it. As he said, “When you have built a $3 billion company out of a broom closet, I think you are entitled to a nice house.”
I used to eat Papa Johns all the time when I was in college. Back then I think it was great. And now, I can’t see myself ever stooping so low. I’ve got a couple of Pizza Huts near me, as well as a couple of local pizzerias and a Mellow Mushroom. All of these places, plus the frozen food section at all the grocery stores, would have to be out-of-business before I considered Papa Johns.
Politics aside, the sauce is too sweet for me.
Just saw another commercial with him and all I could think was that if he weren’t so smarmy and on my TV all the time, I wouldn’t always be reminded of how much I hate him. Instead, I see his face and have this automatic “gross” reaction, which would probably prevent me from eating there even if I could.
He has a punchable face.
I never said that I will never support people I disagree with politically. You’re putting those words into my mouth. I said that in this particular instance, since I am aware of this jerk’s attitude because he has publicly stated that he will try to evade having to provide healthcare in an attempt to sway political leaders to enact the legislation, I choose not to do business with him.
I never said I will never do business with someone who disagrees with me. Most of the time, I have not idea about the political leanings of the corporate owners. If I find out their offensive and I have good options available, I spend my dollars elsewhere. As you point out, in a capitalist society, if you pledged never to buy anything from anyone whose morals are not pure, you would soon starve.
My actions are consistent with my belief. By definition, that is not hypocrisy.
I don’t care for his politics, but my husband works for the company and gets a significant discount, and there is a store right on our street (Mrs. Schnatter’s own personal franchise), so resistance is futile.
I didn’t vote because your poll is missing my situation: I *do *support his politics, but his pizza sucks, so no, I don’t buy it.
It might, salads have been tried and have proven to be the most asked for item and the least purchased. A big loss leader. Some stores have them, I had one in KY and it wasn’t bad.
Darn. I suspected so, although if they ever tested them in my market, I missed it. I love a salad with a pizza, and most of your toppings would make great salad fixings. But yeah, if they don’t sell, there’s no point in offering them. I know what you mean about “most asked for and the least purchased.” I managed a Blockbuster Video during the slow slide into oblivion. Stupid Corporate kept giving the customers what they asked for instead of what they wanted.
I want salads. I’d buy salads. But one salad sale a week is not a viable business model.
Dunno about anyone else, but I don’t go looking for reasons not to shop somewhere. But when someone makes it a point to make sure I know about their politics, I can’t help but factor that it.
If he said, ‘If our business is successful and achieves excessive profits, we’re under no obligation to share that with our workers.’ Then he’s just stating a fact, not an opinion. They are under no obligation to share profits with their workers.
Yup, if you go on Fox News to tell people that if health care reform is passed you’ll have to raise the price on your shitty pizza, then I guess you want me to know your politics. Also, what is it with executives from shitty pizza companies thinking they can lead America to a bright new future? First Herman Cain and now this douche.
I didn’t even know about the politics. It’s my least favorite of the chain pizzas. Pizza Hut, Dominos, then PJ, but I usually cheap out and get 5 dollar pizzas from Little Caesar’s if I get any of it.
The crust is bland and doughy and the little tub of garlic grease does nothing to help that. I wouldn’t like it if the politics went in another direction. I realize I shouldn’t “show my support” of a company whose politics don’t match my own but I’m rarely the purchaser in this house anyway.
Hear! Hear!
I don’t care one way or the other about their pizza, but I won’t buy their product, just like I don’t go to Chic-fil-a, Target, Hobby Lobby or Carl’s Jr.
