Do you carry a pocketknife?

I have carried a pocketknife everyday of my life since I was oh…ten or so. The only exceptions were when in a courthouse or some other such occasion and even then, I kept it in the glove compartment so I could retrieve it.
Of course,
I also keep a pocketknife and a SOG paratool in the glove compartment…just in case I somehow forget my daily carrier at home.

So, do any or all of you carry pocketknives? What kind? What kind do you wish you were carrying?

I carry a Pre Production numbered Benchmade 720 that doesn’t have that stupid highlighting on the handle. I love it and I collect Benchmades. My next purchase will be a 940. (Its the green one - I can’t figure out how to do two links in one post and I’m too busy to go spend ten minutes searching so you’ll have to look for yourselves) I can get it for $112 from my local gun shop and I’m saving up!

I carry a small Swiss army knife on my keychain. I bet I use it 20 times a day. This one’s great. Its the same small size of all the others I’ve had in the past with a knife, screwdriver, file, tweezers, toothpick and scissors, but it has more.

Contents of Munch’s knife:
knife
scissors
standard screwdriver w/file
phillips screwdriver w/can opener and wire stripper
tweezers
ball point pen

I always have a Letherman micra in my pocket hooked to a Mag solitaire aaa cell flash light. When working or riding the motorcycle a Gerber Multitool is always on my belt. They both have blades on them so I guess technicaly they are both knives but they are so much more. For the money I think Kershaw makes the best work/hunting knives on the market with Gerber a close second.

My beat-around knife is a spyderco delica.

My pride and joy is a rekat pioneer 2. I bought it for myself as a college graduation gift. It’s built really solid and has the cool rekat locking mechanism that allows it to open very quickly like a gravity knife with a flick of the wrist once you get used to it.

Oh, yes Indeedy!

Currently, I carry a 4’ tanto linerlock half serrated/half straight with a soild aluminum handle. Thumb stud plus some tinkering with the mechanism means that I can make it behave like a gravity knife OR open it with the thumb stud.
Bought it as a replacement for the knife I lost (for the third and last time) the day I got my marriage license and didn’t want to take it into the courthouse. Took the knife out of my pocket and stashed it in a flower planter. Wasn’t there when I got back. Grr. Some chucklehead is now walking around with a Laguiole-model liner lock with belt clip. Bodyguard clip-point blade, again, half-serrated, half straight, and Napoleon III’s “royal bee” on the back. Very cool knife and the maker has discontinued them. Anyone know where I can get another? I tried Atlanta Cutlery but their online store sucks rocks.

And then there’s the two Leatherman Micras (one in the pocket that doesn’t have the knife, the other in glove compartment), the Leatherman Wave for after work and weekends, and the SOG multitool on the computer bench.

Operative word: did. Took a new job at the end of '99 in a federal building where I have to run the metal detector gauntlet every day. For a while, I just emptied my pockets each morning 'till it got to be a hassle. Then I put it in my briefcase, and that worked fine. THEN, we got some ass-wipe security guard with an attitude who asked me if that was a knife in my briefcase. I said yes. He asked to see it. I complied.

Much to my surprise, a Victorinox Swiss Army “Camper” knife (the model with two blades, “saw,” scissors, can opener/phillips, bottle opener/slot, awl, toothpick, and tweezers) is considered to be a deadly weapon and banned from secured federal facilities. Grrrr. No knife now, and I’ve learned how often I relied on it.

I’ve got, on my keychain, a small Swiss-Army knife with the blade, file/screwdriver and scissors (plus the tweezers in the end.)
In my car I used to have my K-Bar under my seat until I got pulled over and the cop warned me that it could be considered a concealed weapon. Now I only pack it when I travel…that or my .45.

Right now I carry a actual, honest-to-God Swiss army knife. My father-in-law got it for me before he died. It’s a prized possession and I use it every day.

It has:

Large blade
small blade
File (two-sided)
Saw
Scissors
Bottle opener (w/screwdriver set)
Alternate bottle opener
Awl
Hook
Chisel
Prybar
Corkscrew
Eyeglass screwdriver
Toothpick (w/hook)
Tweezers

I don’t know if I could survive without it. Put me on Survivor III with this thing and I’m a lock. Count on it.

I used to carry pocket knives, but I never seem to need them any more. When I do carry one it is one of the following:

Single 3 1/2" blade Case with a yellow handle,
Three-blade, brown, Case, about 2 1/2" folded,
Victorinox Spartan, black,
Victorinox Soldier.

I do keep blades close at hand, even when I don’t carry one in my pocket. In the cubby of my Cherokee is an “ER1” knife. This has an orange handle and a serrated blade that slides out. Also there is my first Victorinox Champion, which is about 20 years old. In my backpack I carry a Gerber Multi-Tool (similar to a Leatherman). My desk contains a small knock-off of the Victorinox Classic that the company passed out. At home, one of the knives I sometimes carry in my pocket is usually within reach. I also have a cheap fish-knife, which has about a 4" blade and a scaler/hook disgorger, and a Cold Steel SRK. My bayonette for my AR-15 (made by Buck) is lying around. I actually have a box full of knives somewhere, and some pocket knives in my “pocket knife drawer”. In my “damn drawer” (so called because every damned thing you can think of is in it) is a Barlow knife that dad used to use around the house.

Knives are often very useful tools.

Where were you guys 9 years ago when my beloved Manilla Folder butterfly knife was confiscated from me as I entered the courthouse to fulfill my obligation to be a juror?

I loved that knife. Solid brass handles with inlaid wood. Blade about 3 inches long. The perfect tool for cutting stuff you needed to hold on to while you got out your knife. I didn’t even think of it as a knife. It was just a tool to me. The nice peace officer in the funny hat didn’t see it that way. He got a good chuckle when I asked if I could have it back on my way out.

Now I make due with a Victorinox Swiss-Army knife in my pocket and a Leatherman tool in my book bag.

If I am wearing clothes, I have at least one knife on me. I carry a Leatherman Micro, a Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation folding pocket knife and a Gerber folding knife in a belt sheath.

When I am out in the woods or hunting I carry an Anza knife (made from a file), a Gerber straight blade bowie style and a Old Timer skinner type knife.

I keep a Swiss Army knife, what Ivorybill had minus the toothpick & tweezers, in my shoulder bag. Had mine for several years, both blades have the tip broken off and the scissors’ spring is missing. Only had one problem with them being in my bag, not by brining 'em into a Gov’t office but in Reagan National. At least I think that’s why the x-ray techs were so concerned. My return flight was out of a commuter airport in east Texas, where I had no problem.

Can’t believe I finally got to tell that.

Got me a Victorinox Tinker Deluxe–two blades, flathead/bottle-opener, can opener, pliers, scissors, Phillips, and tweezers. Lost the toothpick sometime back.

I’ve used each tool more times than I can count.

And if I’m wearing my kilt, you can be sure I’ve STILL got a knife on me.

I’ve had a knife in my pocket ever since the day I joined cub scouts and my Dad gave me a scout knife as a gift. Took it to school EVERY day, too. Dad taught me to respect it, how to use it, how to keep it sharp and clean.
“It is a TOOL, not a weapon. Treat it as such.”

I’ve got FIVE multi-tools (what DID we do without them?!). One each in my truck, my wife’s car, in the garage, in the kitchen, and in my toolchest in the basement.

I carry an Uncle Henry (285UH) with two Schrade+ blades. It’s nothing flashy or collectible, but it’s mine. My son will inherit it one day, and it’ll have a razor sharp edge on it.
He’ll also inherit my scout knife, my father’s Barlow, my grandfathers penknife (of unknown origin), and my great-grandfather’s hunting knife which, I’m assured, he made himself.

A few years ago when I was in Switzerland, I bought a Victorinox Swiss Army knife. I carry it in my purse every day and I can’t believe how often I have used it!

It’s a medium sized knife, like a regular Swiss Army except it’s not red, it’s green (which the guy at the store said you can only get in Switzerland…don’t know if it’s true, but I liked it) and it has a nice little red carrying case.

It has: toothpick, tweezers, small blade, large blade, scissors, can opener, flat screwdriver, some sort of evil looking pointy thing with a hole in it…an awl maybe? another thingy with a hook on the end (haven’t used those two too often) and a corkscrew that has a teeny tiny sugnlasses screwdriver screwed in to it.
Oh, and it has my name engraved in the side (they did that for free when I bought it)

It’s my favorite souvenir from my trip to Europe. It’s certainly my most-used souvenir!

The only times I don’t have at least one knife on me is when I’m showering, sleeping or spending quality interactive naked time. At such times, a blade might be as far away as three whole feet.

On my person one shall usually find:

A Swiss Army knife. I don’t know what model it is, but it’s the one with everything but the magnifying glass, ruler/fish scaler and (unfortunately) corkscrew. Multitools are great, but none I’ve found can beat the original.

A Cold Steel 4" lockback Tanto straight edge. I’ve tried nearly every other folder on the market, and NOBODY beats Cold Steel for quality of construction, reliability, holding and edge and hinge / lock strength. It’s great as a letter opener, pry bar, paring knife and getting close to last ditch self-defense item.

A Cold Steel Peacekeeper II push dagger, double-sided straight edge. For defensive purposes, I think the push dagger is the best choice for penetration and wound channel. It’s also damn comfy to carry and use.

On special occasions (courthouses, secured buildings, air travel, etc.) there is a good chance of my also carrying a Cold Steel Delta Dart composite spike and/or a Cold Steel composite tanto. No annoying little “beep” when you go through a metal detector, and there’s not a chance I’m going to voluntarily relinquish my right to be possess the means to be secure in my person just because some bureautwit is a hoplophobe.

Lastly, when camping, hiking, etc., I carry either my trusty old Ka-Bar or Cold Steel Recon Tanto strapped to my left leg.

Gee, re-reading this, I think it might be kinda obvious I’m impressed with Cold Steel products. Sorry if this sounded like a commercial.

Yes, a Swiss Army one on my keyring. It sure comes in handy!

Amen, brother. Same here. I have the same knife–4" Voyager Tanto–except mine’s half-serrated (hey, it was on closeout for half price! :)) and numbered, too (18 of 100, IIRC). I’ve been considering getting a Recon Tanto myself (probably a factory 2nd, since I’m a poor student :)).

Other knives I carry (not all at once, of course):
Folders:
[ul][li]Victorinox Swiss Army (the one with 2 blades, a can opener, and bottle opener)[/li][li]Spyderco Delica, plain edge[/li][li]2 different Leatherman tools that I found (one in the road, one in a hotel room)[/li][li]small Schrade Old Timer I inherited from my grandfather[/li][li]large Schrade Cliphanger[/ul][/li]
Fixed blades:
[ul][li]nifty little Schrade river/dive knife (forgot the name). Half serrated, flat point (“Do not use for prying or screwdriving” my ass!)[/li][li]Gerber boot knife (on the table by the front door, for when I have to go outside after dark)[/li][li]Ontario 12" machete with Bowie-style blade (for camping and yardwork)[/li][/ul]

I like Cold Steel too. I only have the SRK, and I haven’t used it yet; but I’d like to pick up the Tanto.

I carry a Swiss Army Knife in my purse. My dad gave it to me because he had two. I don’t know what kind it is - it’s red and it has a little picture of a fish on it below an emblem with a cross - can one of you knife fetishists identify it for me?
