Yup, I check the alarm one time. I flick it over to set it, then I press the button thingy to make sure it’s the right time, even though I hardly ever change the time…
The only thing I check is that I turn the clock radio off so it doesn’t wake me on the weekend. Then I have to remember to turn it back on Sunday night. but I don’t usually check it nightly. I’m lucky I remember to take my meds each evening.
I check to make sure the volumn is on ( which PO’s my wife who is usually sleeping when I check), switch is in the right direction and double check the time.
this is due to some mysterious non-alarms and me mixing up the am/pm dot in the past.
Just because you double check something, it doesn’t mean you’re obsessive/compulsive.
I work go into work late in the day, so I don’t set an alarm on most days. But when I need to set the alarm, I double check it. It seems like common sense. Like double checking to see if the door is locked behind you.
I have a back-up, battery-operated travel alarm clock that I also set (and double check), and…
The bedroom TV is set to turn on automatically (to the Weather Channel, except when The Kid has been watching it, in which case it turns on to Cartoon Network).
All that, plus I usually wake up before the alarm goes off, anyway.
Not only do I check it after setting it, I will often wake up five to ten minutes before it’s going to go off convinced I forgot to set it, and have overslept and am late for week.
My husband’s check and re-check routine takes close to five full minutes. One night I leaned over and said “You do realize you’ve got a weird OCD thing going on with this alarm clock, don’t you?”
Now when he goes through the routine, he looks at me sheepishly and says, “Just making sure that little OCD switch doesn’t get rusty…”
I have an old wind up clock, that for some reason, when I wind the alarm again after it’s been wound completely, sometimes just won’t work. So, I have to turn it off, then turn it back on again, and sometimes…wellllll…
But yes, I don’t get that much sleep (about three to four hours a day), so I make sure my alarm is working before I go to bed everytime. Otherwise, I’m out like a sack of beans.
So yes I do. Did. Since I switched from alarm clocks to using my pc there’s really no need. It says right there on the screen when it will play “The Fight Song of the Brunnen-G.” What’s there to check? Plus I can set it weeks or months in advance. Very handy for remembering birthdays and stuff.
