I only eat faux dogs (tofu) but I’d eat them with slaw. I never have, but now that I’ve got the idea, I have to try it. Why not?
I make the ultimate slaw, btw. If you’re all really nice, I’ll give you my recipe.

 Chili and slaw AT THE SAME TIME?! yewww!
does she get…gassy?
My first thought upon seeing the thread title was “hey! this dude must be talking about West-by-God-Virginia!” My folks live in WV, and everytime I’m there and we visit relatives in Huntington, we have to go to some well-known place (I forget the name) and get us some chili dogs with cole slaw on 'em. They’re not too bad actually, but I’d be hard-pressed to find a hot-dog stand here in NorCal that serves them.
Not only do I NOT eat cole slaw on hot-dogs, I have never heard about it until this thread. It sounds horrific. I grew up in Wisconsin, and am living in Minnesota right now, and I think everyone I’ve ever eaten hot-dogs or hot-dog-like-products with have dressed their dogs only with ketchup, mustard, pickle relish, butter (my mom - she’s weird), kraut, or, if they were really adventurous, chili.
Cole slaw on hot dogs is de rigueur in Quebec.
“Deux steamés all-dresse!” means two steamed hot dogs, all dressed (with the works), which includes cole slaw, onions, relish, and mustard. You have to ask for ketchup. Which I do. Please don’t hurt me.
I love my dogs with chili, mustard, onions and slaw.
OR mustard, onions and sauerkraut.
OR with mayonnaise, a thin dill pickle, and fresh tomatoes.
OR Chicago-style.
Mmm. Hot dogs.
I think that this thread sinply serves to show that Midwest cuisine is undeniably superior to Southern cusine.
Cole slaw is not meant to be put on food. If you must put cabbage on food, it must be rotten, sour, and called by a german name.
Barbeque sauce does NOT have vinegar in it. It is sweet and sticky and comes from Kansas City.
Thank you. Ignorance has now been fought. Let us never mention this abomination again.
Never even thought of it, but I have both in the fridge right now.
I’ll give it a shot tomorrow during the Vike-Chicago game. I just wanna give the Bear fans a case of the bends. grin
One of my favorite sandwiches is a Reuben with slaw instead of shudder kraut, so it shouldn’t be too bad.
Before we reinvent the Civil War…slaw on shit is a Memphis thing. Leave the rest of us out of it, please. I really LOVE slaw (when it’s good) but I’d no more put it on a hotdog than I’d put it on a Chicken Alfredo.
This is an idea that is totally new to me, but dear gods, it sounds good! Like flodnak mentioned, it would work really well with a vinegary kind of coleslaw, not the heavy, creamy dressed stuff. Then again, I like sauerkraut on my dogs, so that’s not that far of a jump.
You bloody lot make me sick.
Back in the UK we get ketchup or piss poor mustard…and thats yer lot, so there!
In my hometown in TN, the convenience stores that sell hot dogs almost always have slaw to top them with, right there with the onions, mustard, etc.
I love it.
Slaw dogs is GUUUUUUUUUD!! I love dawgs with onions, mustard, chili and sweet slaw. In fact, now that yall been talkin bout it, I think I’ll have a couple fer lunch. TY fer remindin me bout what I been missin.
Cole slaw on hot dogs? No thanks! Cole slaw belongs on barbecue.
What scott evil said. Just to mention though, the cole slaw is the vinegary one.
We used to have something similar here, about 40 years ago. It was called a guédille. You take a hot dog bun, toast it, and instead of putting a sausage, you fill it with chicken, tuna or shrimp salad and you top it all with french fries. Yummy !
Had two of 'em last night.
Why the hell didn’t anyone tell me about this sooner?!
Hmm…I just made a batch of my World Famous™ cole slaw (recipe available on request). I’ll have to give this a go.
I’ve had chow chow on hot dogs, but I don’t think I could go all the way to cole slaw. My mom would, though. She combines all sorts of things.
Does anyone else here like chow chow on anything?
Aw come on people!, as we all know there are only 2 ways to eat hot dogs:
Chili, cheese, mustard and onions or
Chicago style, yes I want peppers!.
Down here in the swamp (Houston), I used to see “Tennesee dogs” on the menu at Big Franks hot dogs and the Tennesee came with cole slaw but I never saw one ordered.
unclviny
My lord…tomatos, mayo, coleslaw, catsup, shrimp salad…
how 'bout some chocolate sauce? That’d really hide that hotdog taste.
Harry, where’s Harry?
I bet y’all are gonna be puttin beans in the chili next.
Just put my salad on the side, thankyou.
