Do you find it hard to drive in new shoes?

I just bought some new shoes this weekend and today was the first day I drove with them. No matter the shoe I always find it weird to drive with new shoes. I have a harder time feeling the pedals or something. It just doesn’t feel right at first. Is this just something I experience. I was curious if it was more common than I thought.

Years ago I bought a new set of heavy duty work shoes and somehow was pressing the accelerator to the floor thinking I was breaking. Very scary! The shoes were bigger and thicker with heavy flanges on the sides of the soles.

I know what you mean, although I haven’t had a really “new” pair of shoes in years.

Years ago, I bought a new pair of cowboy boots (gray bison hide, very pretty stuff) and halfway home I was in such agony I had to pull over and pull them off. I’d experienced this pain with new shoes before, but never quite so badly and never in such an awkward situation.

The problem is that I’d been buying EEE shoes, the widest that can normally be found in retail stores, and I’m actually a 6E+. A loose EEE was okay, but many are tighter, especially through the instep, and, well, I empathize with victims of Chinese foot-binding.

Since I found out I need “as wide as ya got, and then some” I haven’t changed shoe styles much, so a new pair of, say, walkers, is identical to the last three or four pairs. I don’t find new shoes per se to be a problem, but I can see it being trouble for people who buy a variety of styles.

And I’m pissed at Dunham for discontinuing the ONLY closed-toe, heel-strap sandals that came in 6E. I wouldn’t have beaten up my “old” pairs had I known they needed to last me the rest of my life…
