I posted a link to an image in another thread last week - I’m not going to link to it because I refuse to break the link or make it two-clicks because I don’t think it’s obscene, and I’m not going to post a direct link because I’m not ready to be banned yet. It’s a picture of a man running a marathon who has pooped his pants. You can find it on google if you care to see it. The guy is in public, in broad daylight, and appears to be continuing the race. This is not uncommon for runners. I posted it because I felt like it was a perfect illustration for how some people blaze through a thread and take a big dump in the middle of it and keep on running. Now my posting privileges are “under discussion” because of it. The mod I talked to basically said he can’t imagine how it’s not obscene, and I can’t imagine how it is. Google it if you want to see it, or just judge from the description. If context matters to you, it was in the BBQ Pit forum.

I thought you were being a whiny little bitch in the thread you reference, but I thought the picture was quite funny. Everybody poops. This guy just happened to do it in front of everybody. Kind of like laughing when somebody slips and falls. Juvenile, but still funny.

Either way, it wasn’t a very good illustration of threadshitting because the runner is taking his shit with him.
I find it kinda gross, but not shocking or offensive. I’m surprised I hadn’t heard of this before as something that’s not uncommon. I feel sorry for the guy having his pic all over the internet, though. I’d have blocked out the eyes at least before posting it, if I had taken the pic.

I think the OP is trying to weasel his way out of a losing argument. By asking if we are shocked or offended, he’s taking the intellectual high ground - he can now claim that he’s “challenging our sensibilities” or “opening our minds” or “fighting the conservative/PC mindset.” Well, that’s a load of poppycock (Dutch for “puppy shit”, BTW). I find poop neither shocking nor offensive. I find it gross and unpleasant. Kind of how I find the OP.

If you link to things like someone shitting themselves but clearly state that’s what it is, that’s one thing. People know what the photo is and decided not to click.
But just posting something like that without notice is stupid. You should know better. Poop isn’t offensive, everyone does it, but do I want to look at someone else crapping themselves? Hell no. It’s not a pleasant site.
On this board, we tend to be polite and warn people when posting certain types of photos. Human excrement must surely be one of these types. no?
FWIW – and not at all apropos of how the SDMB may handle things – a picture of female marathoner Ute Pippig (sp?) doing pretty much the same thing was printed in some newspapers back in the mid-90s.
I assume you realize it, but just in case you don’t: “Obscene” is not based on what your perception is, it’s based on the perception of the community/society. In this case the other board members, the mods/admin and, due to the fact that some people view the board at work, all of the communities/societies that may be impacted by the material appearing on the screen.
Everything is relative, including obscenity, it’s purely based on the rules we humans made up, nothing is obscene by itself, but going against the ambiguous rules made up by a society can cause problems in that society.
