Marathon Guy Picture —> Really gross.

No question in my mind that that was the intent of the poster; he meant to be offensive and shocking.

Searching for the picture was most entertaining.

This helped me understand where babies come from. (Safe for work and home!)

If I walked into my office and found poop on my desk, I would find it shocking and offensive.

If I ordered a bucket of KFC Original Recipe and there was poop in it, I would find it shocking and offensive.

In other words, whether or not poop is shocking or offensive per se, there are some places you just don’t want to see it.

It’s not unusual for runners to experience gastrointestinal disorders or diarrhea, also known as “runner’s trots”, during long runs. The cause may be dietary in nature or due to lack of blood flow during digestion (since the blood is being pulled to your muscles).

Often, the athlete is forced to interrupt the workout to seek relief.[3]

I know a lot of runners and ex-military and most of them have either shit themselves running or know someone who has. My stomach has gotten pretty angry but so far I’ve been lucky. If you’re into marathon or triathlon, or any endurance sports in general, you’ve probably seen it.

FWIW, I don’t find the photograph to be obscene in the slightest.

Unfortunately, I know many people don’t share my sometimes libertine views, so I probably would’ve just broken the link, knowing that -someone- was going to take offense. In general, though, I prefer to clearly label all links… just out of habit.

I think it’s pretty damn uncommon. I’ve run 15 or 16 marathons. Never happened to me. Never happened to anybody I knew. Never saw or heard about it happening to anybody. Never saw any poop on a course.

Most course have port a johns every couple of miles, so I can’t see why it should happen.

On the other side of the coin I’ve known several kids back when I was in school who’d had Hershey squirts.

I suppose if you have poor bowel control and you run a marathon you might be at risk. I suppose if you are about to set a record and have to poop, and have to choose between the two, you have a dilemma.

Further, I would guess that in the very rare instances when it does happen, the victim is going to be on display or running by a lot of people with cameras so it’s likely to end up on the net.

Shit happens.

Posting pictures of retch-inducing auto accidents where people are torn in half is not “obscene”, either, by the limited definition of the depiction of prurient sexuality. Neither is posting pictures of Holocaust victims, or the walking burn victims of the Hindenberg, or Japanese women stepping on puppies, or non-erotic furry art, or one of Botticelli’s nudes. It isn’t technically “obscene” to post pictures of someone’s messy gallbladder surgery, or a website that plays a stunningly loud noise, or someone with a gross physical deformity. It isn’t “obscene” to post pictures of huge spiders, depictions of the health benefits of drinking urine, or the horrific results of someone’s failed breast implants.

In my humble non-moderator opinion, you should know better than those things. It is still not a good idea and it certainly isn’t polite to post those things without a warning that the link is of a potentially squicky picture that will make people freak the fuck out, “obscenity” or not.

I couldn’t agree more. I’ve seen it on plenty of occasions on other sites; instances where people just throw out pics of graphic violence, just to say "Isn’t this shocking?.
The least a person can do is give a warning when presenting such imagery.

I would say that the poster in question should have shown more restraint or perhaps at least notified people of what they were clicking on. However, no, I don’t consider poop obscene nor do i understand why it would be a bannable offense.
