Do you get hungry an hour after Chinese?

In my experience, it does seem that way sometimes, but I wonder if that’s only the power of suggestion. What do you think?

Warning-- insensitive ethnic joke approaches. . .
Last week I had dinner at a Japanese place owned by a German family. An hour later I was hungry for power.

Not really. I never got the “hungry again an hour later” jokes.

Depends on how good he was.

On the rare occasions that I partake of Chinese food, I gorge myself utterly. You know, a family meal- a platter of chicken fried rice and an entre or two. Suffice it to say that this sustains me easily for 12+ hours. I can do this about once a month as I am entering my early 20’s and the ole’ metabolism is slowing down-- gotta stay svelte! (Wow, is that too much information or what?) While my eating habits may negate the value of my response… I would say that answer is a definite “no.”

capybara… “hungry for power”? That is classic.

Follwing up on that, one should really ask Esprix.

Yes.
Always has. Its annoying. I eat until I feel like I’m about to blow up. An hour or so later, I’m hungry.

Is it true that an hour after having sex with a Chinese partner, you’re horny again?

(I didn’t say “woman”, so I may be racist and insensitive, but at least I’m not sexist). Inquiring minds want to know!..Timmy

(maybe I should have said “Asian”? Nahhh, that would not have helped at all…)

No, Timmy, I think that’s pretty much with ANY partner!

Mmmm… Chinese…

(Oh, were we talking about food? :smack: )

I once made the mistake of finishing my leftover Chinese an hour after we got home from the restaurant. I stuck it all in a big casserole dish and ate it. I regretted it the next day.

No. I can’t think of anythig in Chinese food (assuming for a moment that we could define what that exactly is – it’s a very broad term) that would make it more digestible that other cuisine.

Fast food, on the other hand…

Japanese food for me. Mostly because of the rice & vegs in it…

BTW, Trader Joes chinese food is great. Sure you have to cook it but its about one
third the price of restaurant food & doesn’t have those thick sauces.

When I have had the opportunity to watch white folks eat Chinese food, I have noticed that many of you treat rice as a side dish. People take a spoonful of each dish and then a spoonful of rice off to the side that often remains uneaten.

This is why you get hungry later. You need to fill up on the starch. It’s like eating the cheese and tomatoes off pizza and leaving the crust. Or the mushrooms and sauce off of your pasta. The rice is an important part of the meal.

Nope, Chinese can sustain me for a long time, probably because of what hapaXL said. I almost always put down a good bed of rice on my plate, and then put the entree on top of it.

It results in a good mix of textures that fills you up to a ridiculous amount. I can eat Chinese at 6 p.m. and not get even the slightest twinge of hunger until 10 a.m. the next day.

hapaXL pretty much summed it up, for me anyways. I have a thing for good fried rice. I usually eat unhealthy quantities of the stuff and end up bloated for hours. An hour after eating I’m usually thinking about a nap, not seconds

I honestly dunno.
I m one of these people who is just not very in touch with her body, I suppose.
I have no idea what foods make me hungry an hour later, or tired,
or intestinally disturbed, etc.
Guess I’m just not organized enough…

I don’t get hungry an hour later. On a single menu entree plus rice, I can satisfy my hunger completely and have enough left over for lunch the next day. Of course, I nearly always order a fish or meat based entree so that might account for it

If it’s true that restaurant portions in America are getting bigger and bigger, maybe you didn’t use to get as much food years ago when this bit of folk “wisdom” originated.

Usually, when I eat Chinese food, it’s at a buffet-style restaurant. Whenever I eat at an all-you-can-eat place, I eat way too much.

So, no, I am not hungry an hour later.

If I am eating a single entree, I follow hapaXL’s advice and eat all the rice in sight. Again, I am not hungry an hour later.

Fatter, but not hungry.

It usually comes up after eating it in about half hour so yes… um… But really, I think most Chinese food here in the US is made with such high fat, salt, sugar, and other things that stimulate your appitite that it goes through you faster that you are used to. Just my 2 cents.
