Do you have an incredibly asinine voicemail greeting?

Not really the same situation. It’s expected and nearly universal that an answering machine is somehow going to identify whom you’re reached. There is no such feedback for e-mail, so the lack doesn’t stand out as it does on voicemail.

My beef is mainly the carelessness of not having identifying information in the outgoing message, when it’s so easy to do. As I said earlier, it makes me think that the person isn’t really all that invested in checking or returned messages. (Perhaps it would be OK if I just said “Call me” and didn’t leave my name and number? Doubt it.)
