Not fake food, but actual food that’s not for eating but for decoration? The bowl of fruit on the coffee table and the like.
I don’t, but my mother does. She has this little velveteen-covered red boot that she sets out on a side table as a Cristmas decoration. She keeps about a dozen candy canes in it and she’s had the same candy canes in the boot for at least the last ten years.
Well, we use the same candy canes to decorate the tree each year unless the dog gets to them. Santa puts fresh quality (Hammonds) candy canes in our stockings.
My mom does. Grapes.
She also has fake flowers that always fake me out. They are tulips in a clear vase with fake water made of plastic. I’m always afraid it will tip and splash, then remember.
I got some of that Mac-whatever pasta that’s in several shapes and colors, sorted it, and have it in transparent canisters. Above them, on the wall, I have 30 of those magnetic spice containers. I sometimes use some of them, but most are there only because I like their colors.
I have a prop pineapple sitting on my dining table. I was too cheap to buy flowers last week so I just put the pineapple there. It’s making the room smell beautiful but it will go bad eventually. Still, it’s lasting longer than some flowers do.
I had some prop saltwater taffy that I’d made myself. I put it in wrappers and set it in a dish in the living room, then ignored it. Eventually I got rid of it because one of the ringnecks, not understanding the difference between real food and prop food, started eating it.
