Do you have anyone on your "Ignore" list?

Ahh, it’s like an anti-ignore list.

In Soviet Russia, list ignores you!

I’ve never used an ignore feature/filter/killfile on any board. However, I’ve occasionally found myself wishing I could block an unnecessarily disputatious member of a list or newsgroup from reading (and responding to) my posts.

I’m shaking my head, because I missed my chance for true genius by saying, “Ahh, so it’s a Czarcasm style ‘Death Ray’.”

The above post never happened.

Rule 3 of the ignore list is “no pooftahs.”

I’ve never thought of using it.

You ARE the man, Dan.

Oh, and to contribute to the thread, I’m anti-ignore list, although I have one possible canidate. No one seriously pisses me, but… Well, I’m not going to say anything because I’m afraid it would be too specific.

Until today, I didn’t have anybody on my ignore list, if only because I’m curious and want to know what people say. But I just began ignoring some posters, and it’s precisely this thread which gave me the idea to do so. And actually not because I don’t want to read what they wrote.
I don’t have a good memory of names, let alone nicknames. But there are some posters whose statements are so widely offensive that I just want to remember who is it I’m talking with in the future. The ignore list is going to be an useful tool for this purpose, even if I click to read their post. It will remind me that this particular person is a piece of shit.
I began some minutes ago with two posters. Since the OP asked about the general reason why we choose to ignore someone, in my case, it would be people who belong to the “potential SS if ever given the opportunity” category due to them advocating things which would be on par with the most odious crimes the last century has been filled with.

I’ve used it occasionally, usually for the kind of trolls that like to wander in to random (read: every) thread and not just be obnoxious, but be obnoxious in exactly the same way every freaking time. In just about every case, they’ve been banned pretty soon afterwards.

Right now? Only one person.

Hmmm…I wonder what would happen if you put yourself on your ignore list. Would it be like typing with invisible ink?

Dunno. I just get the message “Sorry, you can not add yourself to your own ignore list.”

Same thing for the buddy list.

Yes, I very recently put someone there. This is a thing I don’t normally do, with the same thoughts in mind that other’s have expressed. However, the bile and extreme dislike bodering on hatred expressed by this person towards me was not something I need right now. I may clear my ignore list at some point in the future when things are calmer on my side of the moniter, but not now.

No matter how annoying, or obnoxious, or angerfying (shut up, it’s a word now), or aggravating, or just plain rude another poster has been, I’ve always found that I can learn somethin’ from them.

So… no Ignore List for me.

I have occasionally wished I could put myself on somebody else’s ignore list, as in: “I wasn’t talking to you”, but I don’t have anyone on mine.
In a couple of instances someone that I had previously thought was a complete waste of protoplasm has posted something that made me re-evaluate my opinion of them. If I had ‘ignored’ them, I wouldn’t have had that opportunity.

I used to have a long time, high post count member on my ignore list, but he was eventually banned. As of now, no one is on my list. There are a few people that make me crazy, but I think what really put me over the edge with the one person was that I had met him several times in person, so even his more harmless posts became tinged with what I knew to be his (unbelievably obnoxious) real life persona, and I just couldn’t stand it.

I’m glad that this board has an Ignore option, but it’s already the best-policed board I’ve ever been to, and I haven’t run into anyone I feel really deserved it. I always thought that user blocking and post reporting were largely stopgap measures moderators put in simply because they let things get out of control (still better than nothing, but doesn’t speak very well of their commitment to having civil message boards). Here, the bums get promptly tossed. What more do I have to do?

Besides, it’s always fun to see truly ignorant posts get ripped to shreds. Just because stupidity happens here doesn’t mean that we have to take it.

No one is completely useless: they can always serve as a bad example.
