Do you keep your cell phone in a case/cover, or just naked?

Mine’s an oldie from 2003, so it’s flat but the main reason why I use a cheapo cover (black and tastefully decorated with a silver fern and the words “New Zealand” because it came from a $2 shop, but I usually prefer solid black) is so I can retrieve it more easily from my bag, where it usually hangs from a velcro strap that slides through a loop on the back of the cover. When I have pockets on my clothing, it goes in there, and the snugness of the cover means I don’t have to worry about the phone falling out of a breast pocket.

Nekkid phone for me! I had a case on an older phone for a while, but I found it hard to press the buttons through the plastic, and the case always shifted a little so it made it harder to plug it in to charge it, so I took it off. When I got this phone, which is a flip phone, I didn’t bother getting a case, and it either lives loose in my purse or in the cell phone pocket on my school bag. It isn’t very scratched up, and this particular phone doesn’t have any outer buttons that can call people by accident (or, like my husband’s phone, turn on the speaker phone, causing his pants to randomly say “Say a command!”)

I use a open type belt holster for my Motorola Nextell. But I do put clear box tape over the screen so that I can still see the screen in bright sunlight. When the tape gets too scratched I just replace it. The rest of the case is scratch to hell and gone. I like the open belt holster so when one of the guys at work call me on the walkie-talkie I can easily anwser just by reaching down and pushing the side button.

You should see my utillity (tool) belt. 18 in. box knife, folding knife, couple of screwddivers, prybar, 5 in 1 and a holster for my drill gun. I am #^@*ing Batman

I just upgraded and even with a heavy discount, my phone cost $200 but I don’t have a case for it and don’t plan to buy one.

I have a clear, snap-on case on my Razr.

I’ve tried it both ways but I keep it in its little case in the purse and naked in the house.

Naked. It’s a flip phone. And my biggest accidental button pushing problem is that it periodically decides to try take pictures of the inside of my pocket.

Naked. It’s a cheap POS, and I buy flip phones so I don’t accidentally dial Guam when I throw it in my bag and then chuck a book on top of it. It has buttons on the outside but one of them is volume, which does nothing when it’s closed, and the camera button needs to be held down a while and then released before it does anything.

It has a pocket on the outside of my messenger bag, solely because the bag came with it. Otherwise it just gets thrown in my purse or shoved in a pants pocket.

All my previous phones have been naked, but having just got myself a touch-screen phone on the weekend, now I find it needs to be in a case, if only to protect the screen.

I have a Motorola Razor. Everyday, it’s in a RELoad pouch on the strap of my Timbuk2 bag. And the bag goes with me practically everywhere.

If I’m not slinging the bag, the phone is in a pocket. I try to make sure it’s the only thing in that pocket, to prevent scratches.

I have a case for mine, just a cheapie that I got at the Dollar Store. It’s leather (or a good simulation) and clips to my belt. I had a plastic clip that I got when I bought my phone, but the phone gets bumped and falls out easily at work.

I feel like Batman (or more gender-specific, BatGirl) while at work. I have my personal cell phone, my work-based Nextel, latex gloves tucked into my belt, trauma shears, tape and sometimes my fire department pager. When I’m trying to tuck in my shirt after a potty break, I sometimes think, “All I need is some rope and a grappling hook, and I could be BatGirl!”

I have never used a case, but I got bitched out tonight for not using the little button on the side to open the phone. I get my husband’s hand-me-down cell phones, so I’m not used to using a little button to open it. Get over it, already. Now I find out it’s some $400 cell phone that I’m about to break. He’s dropped the thing off three-story roofs before, and I’m supposed to use a button to open a flip-phone? Bah. I just yank it open, and he cringes.

Anyway, my handbag has a little compartment for a cell phone, so if it ever occurs to me to take the phone with me, I just stick it in that little pocket on the side of my purse.

(I also don’t know my own cell phone number, nor the voice mail code. I don’t know how to text, either.) I am a Luddite, and proud of it.

No fingerprints? Interesting…

I too have a Tréo 700m, after over a year with a 650. In both cases, I keep it naked in the pocket. It is so bulky to begin with that the idea of a cover or skin is just too much to bear. And the silicone skins make it stick inside of one’s pockets.

I do set the touchscreen to lock when I am on the phone. This is recent. I spent a year tucking it into the pants pocket only to have one of two things happen:

  1. I would dial someone unbeknownst to myself.
  2. I would hang up during a call with someone because my pocket brushed the touchscreen.

Lurve my 700P.

BiblioCat, I wore a buff belt crammed with little holders. LOVED that thing. I had your aforementioned stuff, and two speedloader pouches. One was crammed with Nitrile gloves. The other had a few latex straps for pushing I.V.'s and raising a good vein. I dunno how many pouches I had on that thing.

I felt rather manly too. However, my generous hips ( for a guy, I’ve got hips that ought to have a uterus to go with em… ) and the BatBelt made it hard to negotiate narrow corridors. However, I looked fab. And didn’t have to run to the truck as much for stuff.

Cartooniverse, currently unable to USE said 700 in Japan. We can fake putting a man on the moon by shooting cheesy special efx in a studio in Burbank but we cannot establish a worldwide cellular standard? What the hell.

Mine is in a case. It’s usually in my purse but it’s small enough that it’s hard to reach for and the case helps with that.

Robin

I don’t have a case for mine. I have one of these, Samsung SCH-A670 Review | Gear Live, and I’ve dropped it down the stairs at Penn Station and it still works fine.
I do have a case for my iPod, because I don’t want to scratch the video screen and it’s a $400 item.

BlackBerry Pearl, and it’s naked as a jaybird.

We have Pantech phones. the wife has a strap and it lives in her fanny pack special pocket. I ride loud motorcycles and wear shorts a lot when not riding so I have a semi-open leather case that I attach at my neck under my right ear so I can hear it ring when riding. That also keeps it out of harms way when working and bumping things that would kill it in a pocket. Also have / had Samsung, Nokia, GE, Motorola and then the old big stuff including ‘bag’ phones before the cell phones were out.

I have one of those chocolate phones that slides open. I don’t have a case for it; I keep it in my purse, most of which have a little pocket inside that’s just the right size.

My husband has a Blackberry, which he does have a holster for. He used to have a name-brand holster which he paid $35 for at the Sprint store. He lost that one and replaced it with a cheapie from a mall kiosk. 15 bucks and he likes it better.

My son carries his nakee flip phone in his pocket.

My daughter’s flip phone is also nakee. She walks with crutchs, and had a fancy bag attatched to one of them which she uses as a purse. She keeps the flip phone in the crutch bag.

My mom has a chocolate (her’s is white, mine is red) phone like mine. She does have a case on hers – not for safety or for carrying, though. She doesn’t like the slippery feel of the phone, so she has the case on it to make it easier and more comfrotable to hold. She keeps it in her purse.

My dad has a flip phone in a holster. When he gets dressed in the morning, the phone goes on his belt and it stays there all day long.

So, in my family of six – half of us carry nakee; one uses a cas; two use holsters.

I have a snap on case onmy RAZR too, but mine looks like a $100 bill because I’m kind of a dork.

The little screen on the front is in the middle of Ben’s face, so I spent an hour or so rotating and trimming a pic to use as my wallpaper so he looks better. I’m actually a total dork.

I bought a case from mine that I could hang from a belt loop, as keeping it in my pocket naked gave me the choice of

–using a cover with hard-to-press-even-when-you’re-trying buttons, or
-Accidentally calling people

Plus some of my pants don’t have pockets big enough to comfortably keep a phone in.

I don’t have a cell right now, but with my next one I suspect I’ll go for a flip style and keep it naked.
