Do you know the Apostle's Creed from memory?

No, but if you hum a few bars, I’ll come in on the chorus.

That’s interesting because I’ve never thought of it that way. I’ve always thought of it more as a reaffirmation of our baptisms. That’s why it’s separate from the Prayers of the People. I’m Episcopalian, though.

This Wikipedia article suggests otherwise. It uses the term I remember learning, the ruaḥ hakodesh, and can refer to the Shekhinah, or glory of God that dwells among the Israelites.

Granted, it’s not remotely similar to a trinitarian belief, assuming the Holy Spirit is God. It’s just his presence and glory, or just the spirit of religious inspiration.

And to senoy: her exact words were “you don’t really believe that supernatural stuff, do you?” So that’s why I’m not sure. It seems to me that heaven is a supernatural thing. However, all I can find on the Progressive Christianity website is that they believe that much of the Bible are non-literal stories that hold spiritual truth. That’s not too unusual.

That’s why I said I was unsure, not that she definitely didn’t believe. I could ask her, but it just feels weird to bring that up out of nowhere when we don’t really talk much–just share social justice and anti-Trump Facebook posts.
