Do you like getting up and getting ready while it is still dark?

I mean on days you have to to work or be somewhere you are required to be. I mean, I prefer to sleep in until 8 AM and have a lovely rest as much as anyone, but this is not an option for me on a regular work day.

I’m a school teacher and I get to work at 7 AM. I wake up between 5:55-6:00 am and I get to see the change in sunup pretty clearly over the course of my school year.

I must be insane, but I vastly prefer the days where I am waking up, getting read, and driving to work while it is still dark. At this time of year, just before the hour change, I get up while it is dark, but drive to work while the sun is 75% up.

My wife thinks I’m crazy. I actually checked the updated sunrise times so I can see how many days I’ll get “dark wakeups” once the time shift happens this weekend. I have until approximately April 10 once the change happens.

What do you prefer? Darkness getup-getready-drive or Light getup-getready-drive?

I am not a morning person – I’m definitely a late-night person – but circumstances force me to get up early, and in the winter that means when it’s dark.

I get up at 5:30 most mornings and get ready so that I can be at work between 7 and 7:30. If my wife is working or my daughter has classes, they’ll get up, too, but a little later, so by getting up earlier, I get the bathroom first. If they don’t, I get dressed by braille or by flashlight.

I used to have a job with a 80 mile commute. For that one I got up by 5 so I could be on the road by 5:30. For that job, I left my clothes out in the living room the night before so I could get dressed without disturbing anyone.
But, no, in no case did I particularly care for it. But it made me feel virtuous. And sleepy.

No.

No. Having to get up in the dark pretty much ruins my morning.

I’m a morning person. Even when I don’t have to get up for work, I’ve been known to get up before sunrise. I do prefer to drive to work when it’s light, but that’s only an option part of the year. No big deal either way.

Just don’t look for me after 9PM…

I don’t even like getting up before noon! I work 2nd shift, so I can get away with it thankfully. I stay up very late, but I absolutely MUST be in bed before the sun comes up.

I love driving at dawn, watching the change. I especially love it on the open road, a couple hours into a road trip, but I also like it when I’m just driving to work.

I don’t really like that time of the year when I drive in the pitch dark, but being awake in the dark is fine.

I head to work around 1 am so I get to go to work when it’s not dark only a few weeks per year. Makes it extra enjoyable when it isn’t dark though. Sun of course isn’t up at 1 am even at solstice but roughly June - July it doesn’t get properly dark at all and street lights are shut down for 6 weeks.

Note the use name post combo. I detest the sun. Really. If I could be a proper vampire and exist only at night, I would. IMO nothing should ever happen before, say, 4 pm. It’s much, much easier for me to stay up until dawn than it is for me to get up before dawn. (I get up before dawn almost every day because children. This was not sufficiently explained ahead of time.)

Ack, no. Not at all a morning person here. On the flip side, when I worked late, I found it relaxing to drive home in the dark, appreciating all the lights of the city beneath me and equally appreciating the less busy roads.

Doesn’t really make a difference, but I hate going to and coming home from work in the dark. I rarely do, thankfully.

I get up every weekday morning at 6, to be to work at 7, so it’s dark when I get up for about 8 months of the year. I’ve had this shift for probably fifteen years, maybe more; it doesn’t bother me in the least.

I always get up about 2:00 am, so getting ready in the dark doesn’t bother me at all, but I have poor vision in the dark, so I prefer light for driving.

I tend to fall asleep pretty early in the evenings.

No! By damn and horse maneuvers, I hate it like poison!

I’m naturally a night owl and I enjoy being awake when others are sleeping. That said I hate waking up in the mornings but once I am awake it is enjoyable to me to do my morning routine when its still dark outside and driving to my destination in the dark.

I don’t mind getting up early but my night vision isn’t the best so driving like that every day would get old for me. But I have done it and would so again.

I drive to work in the dark year around. I get up a 3:30, leave about 4:10 and get to work about 4:40. Since they put some windows in the big airplane factory about 10 years ago, I can tell when the sun comes up now.

I have been retired for 5 years and am still out of the house before daylight every morning.

no. I’ve had jobs where I had to get up early and even on days when I got enough sleep I still didn’t enjoy it. I like staying up until midnight, and can’t do that if I have to get up at 5am. I don’t like having to go to bed at 9pm.

Yeah but you only sleep 10-20 hours a week.
