"Do you like gladiator movies?" Huh?

Looks like I picked the wrong week to stop surfing the Dope.

Don’t call me Shirley!

Wait. What’s your vector, Victor?

A little light reading?

I misunderstood your question. Long before Conan there were a slew of movies about Hercules and other heroes of the ancient world called peplum, made in Italy but with American audiences as well as Italian audiences in mind. They cast American actors like Steve Reeves in the lead (Peter Lupus of Mission Impossible, who starred in one, had to change his name because the producers said his real name was “too Italian.” They wanted an AMERICAN lead!) but the productions were typically all Italian.

These are the movies Captain Ouever was talking about.

I think that the people who quote it, yet, cannot articulate what is meant, haven’t seen the movie.
If you’re leaning to the Cap being a pedo, lean a little further.

One of them was later turned into the Australian movie Hercules Returns, which is hilarious but may not translate well for anyone outside this part of the world.

I don’t see Oveur as being pedo, and feel that those that do are reading too much into it - they’re simply jokes.
I haven’t seen anything like this since the Anita Bryant concert.

I always chalked it up to the captain being inappropriate. To me, Gladiator movies are violent, blood and guts, etc. And for the captain to be asking a child if he watches Gladiator movies, seen a grown man naked, etc…that. Just being inappropriate.

But I also came up with that conclusion being a 12 year old girl then…so take it for what it’s worth. Lol.

This is too long to post without violating copyright rules, but if you look at the writer’s quote, you’ll see that while the joke was indeed about pedophilia, the intent wasn’t just to make a pedophile joke-it was to have those kinds of comments coming out of the mouth of a squeaky clean person, the pilot.

Another one, short enough to quote:

Boys Beware!
