If you don’t like Horseradish sauce, what do you dip your fries in at Arby’s? Their Horsey sauce is pretty mild; but at least it’s a bit of a kick compared to ketchup.
Hopefully not Arby sauce. I hate that shit.
Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, horseradish.
Actually, I make a dipping sauce out of ketchup, Arby’s Sauce and their three-pepper sauce. Pretty good.
OK, but I’m pretty sure Gatorade has real Gators in it.
I can’t do the hot chilis/peppers (capsaicin) much past medium, or should say at least that I’m not crazy about them. But I looooooves me the horseradish/wasabi/Chinese mustard sinus blast!
I had some wasabi at a restaurant in Japantown, SFCA, that must’ve been the real thing (not green horseradish paste), because just a teensy bit had my sinuses cleared and my eyes tearing up intensely - wow! And the great thing about it, it doesn’t hang around and make your tongue suffer for a while.
But I’m in agreement with those who disdain any kind of mayonnaisey-concoction with a negligible amount of horseradish that tries to pass itself off as the real thing.
Because of this thread, I had to head over to the market for lunch fixin’s. I found a really nice horseradish mustard from Stonewall Kitchen, roast beef- sliced as thin as possible- smoked cheddar, and a Kaiser roll. Yummy.
I love horseradish! I like my horseradish the way I like my women… hot, shredded, whitish or that odd reddish colour, in a screwtop jar with “Cedarvale” written on the outside… Guess you shouldn’t read too much into that.
I just had some on my roast beef sandwich for lunch. Yum yum yum yum yum yum yum!
NOTHING beats Prime Rib, medium rare, and horseradish cream sauce.
Cept that and crispy fries.
Oh I love horseradish sauce. Took me a little while to learn that it’s only good in small doses (otherwise you have to have a sinus transplant!) but I absolutely love it. I eat it on french fries or hashbrowns, or shrimp, or beef…the list could go on and on.
It’s one of my favorite “foods” (condiments?) but must really be ingested frugally. I learned that the hard way…trust me. Best de-congestant ever.
Daniel: Horseradish, (the chopped kind, not the mayonaissy kind) , is great with peanut butter and tamari as a sandwich, or, as an open face treat for breakfast. Starts the day with a bang!
I also like horseradish on fried green tomatoes, and the mayonaissey horseradish sauce as a dip for fried okra. Usually add some tabasco there, too.
Horseradish and wasabi are not the same plant, but have similar effects. My imaginary band name is Wasabi Headrush. yeeha!
Here’s a tangential link to a wasabi thread I just started over in cafe society:LINK, In color!
I love horseradish on my roast beef! Yummy. Of course, the hot roast beef I get at the local sub shop always has onion, horseradish, jalapenos, black pepper, red pepper, and black olives. So the horseradish tends to get drowned out.
One of my coworkers went with us to a sushi bar for the first time. When he asked what the green stuff was, we told him it was “Chinese Guacamole.” So he ate a heaping spoonful of it and nowadays won’t go near anything we are eating. Of course, this is the same fool who once knowingly ate a whole habanero and was incapacitated for close to an hour. So we don’t feel too bad about it.
I LOVE HORSERADISH!
My recipe:
1 pound fresh horseradish root, preferably home grown and well pampered
½ cup apple cider vinegar
Freshly squeezed juice of 2 lemons
Open all the windows you can, and grind the hr as finely as possible. A juicer such as the Champion or Norwalk is best. Be prepared for a considerable purge of the nasal cavities.
Put the pulp in a mixing bowl; add the acv and lemon juice, and mix thoroughly.
I make this every year around October, and routinely receive the review, “Best I’ve ever tasted.”
Arby’s Horsey sauce is tame. The keep packets of Horseradish in a fridge behind the counter, you have to ask for it.
