Do you like leggings or tights?

It seems that leggings and tights are becoming the fashionable things to wear these days, replacing pantyhose for everyday wear. I must admit that they’re not my favorite look, lacking the shine and glamour of pantyhose. Guys is it a look you like? Ladies do you like this fashion trend?
(I’m an American, so I use “pantyhose” to refer to sheer nylon hosiery, with “tights” referring to the opaque material. BTW, what do the British call the opaque hosiery?)

I constantly wear opaque tights in the winter with skirts. I love them! When it’s really cold, I wear the thicker sweater tights. I just love my tights - I have about 15 pairs, mostly black and gray.

I the summer, though, it’s mostly too hot to wear tights so I will go with pantyhose.

I go bare-legged whenever possible. In winter I wear tights. Sometimes pantyhose. I like to wear sheer black thigh-highs.

I am not a fan of leggings. It’s hard to pull those things off.

Of course they’re hard to pull off alone. That’s the point

Leggings and opaque tights look better than bare legs but not as nice as sheer hose. I think the younger set can pull off the patterned legging look a lot better than those over say 25.

I despise hose, leggings, tights, and any other type of form-fitting leg covering. All of these trigger the male-brain response “hey, legs!”, followed by the disappointing “ah, fuck, never mind.”

Bare legs are damned near the sexiest thing on the female body. A woman wearing hose/tights/whatever, though, may as well be wearing pants – I still can’t see what my eye is after – but even worse, since I’m temporarily fooled into thinking I might. Friggin’ cockteases.

On a related note, I have not the slightest clue why I’m supposed to think fishnets and garter stockings are smokin’ hot. “Man, those are some killer legs…if only they had weird black cross-stripes, or belts connecting them to her waist!” Thanks, but no thanks; I’ll have mine plain please.

I wear microfiber tights in the winter. They look polished with boots & skirts, but don’t have that very sheer look of pantyhose.

Don’t like leggings - as a morbidly obese woman in the 80s & 90s, these things along with those oversized shirts were shoved down our throats. I refuse to wear them except at the gym.

VCNJ~

Opaque tights are an essential part of my winter wardrobe, and have been for years. I’m glad they’re back in fashion, actually, because it makes them easier to find in fun colours (as opposed to previous years where you could only find them in the fall for back-to-school and always in school-uniform colours like black, forest green and navy blue… booooring).

On the other hand, I can’t stand the whole leggings trend. Those things really should’ve stayed in the 80s - they were ugly the first time around, and they’re still ugly the second time around. Plus they tend to make even skinny girls look fat, which doesn’t bode well for someone like me who actually does have junk in the trunk.

Leggings are hideous. Opaque tights are fine for winter. Bare legs the rest of the time, unless seriously dressed up, then the sheerest hose possible.

If you’re over fifty, you can get away with a shorter skirt more easily if you wear tights with it. I found a lovely black silk, polka-dotted miniskirt at a thrift shop. However, I felt a little uneasy wearing it at my age. A friend suggested black tights, and voila! I can now wear the skirt and look damned good in it. I don’t know if I could swing it with plain hose.

When I was a kid, my mother liked dressing me in little courdoroy shorts with tights during the winter. I hated the things – I was always so cold! The same with leggings – there was a brief vogue for matching mother/daughter outfits in the early '90s, and dang if we didn’t have matching leggings/sweater sets. (We also had matching parachute suits.) They looked fine on Mom, but they looked awful on me; they would get so baggy in the knees!

No, I don’t care for leggings or tights at all. (They wouldn’t be appropriate for where I work anyway.)

I was under the impression that they have been a big trend, but are starting on their way out. I used to wear tights/stockings a lot when younger, because I could always see the pores on my legs and didn’t realize other people don’t look that closely. I have a few pairs for when it’s cold or when it’s appropriate for the occasion (for some looks, it really does add something - certainly not as often as we’re led to believe, though), but I go bare-legged more often. Leggings I wasn’t happy about at all. Especially the move towards wearing them with micro minis with one’s ass showing, I guess to avoid looking slutty (I don’t mean your situation, teela, I think that’s fairly legit and of course tights are somewhat different than leggings), and especially people buying a size too small, wearing them without coverage and stretching them out to more sheer than they’re supposed to be. Eep.

Leggings to me are too 1988. I wore them the first time around (with a long-tail button down shirt, scrunchy socks and ankle boots – some of you ladies remember that outfit) and I’m not interested in wearing them again. They look old to me, and not in a kicky, retro, good way.

Tights are fine. I don’t wear bulky tights, like the ribbed kind, because I think you have to have skinny skinny legs to pull them off, but regular opaque tights are no prob. As someone else said, they look great with a skirt and boots as part of a winter outfit.

I never wear pantyhose anymore since I moved to the South – it’s too flipping hot most of the time. If I’m in a skirt and it’s cool (fall, winter), I’ll wear tights; if it’s warm (spring, summer), I’ll keep my legs bare. I should also add that I work in a pretty conservative profession and would not feel comfortable with bare legs and a suit (skirt suit), which means I’ve switched entirely to suits with pants for those occasions when I have to dress ultra professionally. I’ve come to really hate pantyhose.

Leg man here. I like them, especially if worn with really short skirts. To me, the sexist thing in the world are thigh high opaque leggings worn with a short skirt.

I thought I’d try some fishnet tights, since I’m told pantyhose are “out”, but as usual, I can’t find any that fit me. Shucky darn, I guess I’ll be uncool in my sheer black pantyhose then.

Looking back to the early 90s, when I was young and had amazing legs - leggings simply don’t look good. Not on anyone. They’re a mistake.

Now, on the rare occasion I wear skirts, I’ll wear tights if it’s more casual and colder and hose* if it’s more formal and warmer. My legs are no longer amazing, but still pretty damned good and the right hose makes them look better.

the idea of stockings is nice, but in practice, they’re usually way too short. Having the tops (or hardware) visible is just tacky.

Love leggings, will never give them up. They let me get away with those items of clothing that are a bit too long to be shirts, a bit too short to be dresses. And they’re comfy.

I was just noticing yesterday that all the teenage girls in the area are wearing vry bright jersey butt-length tops with black leggings. It’s a uniform. I preferred the flouncy skirts from a couple years back.

Okay, I have one pair of leggings. But I was nine months pregnant in January. Not much fit. They’re stretchy.

I usually go with knee-high or thigh-high socks. Striped. I hate pantyhose and tights.

I don’t shave my legs, so if I wear a skirt to work (an elementary school), I like to wear something on my legs to give them a smoother and more socially acceptable appearance. If it’s warm out, I wear panty hose. If it’s cold out I wear tights. I like them. They’re great for my job because they’re fun and pretty sturdy, both of which are a plus when working with second graders.

Bare legs + skirt = chafed thighs. Not happy at all.

I like pantyhose and opaque tights. Leggings, not so much.

Also, I hate people telling me that open-toed shows and pantyhose don’t mix. I think they mix just fine, it’s not like I’m expecting people to think my legs always look like they’re made out of lycra.
