The Faces version of Love In Vain pisses on the Rolling Stones, mostly because Rod Stewart can actually sing the blues and not just bark like a constipated seal.
Is that Rod “singing the blues”, or Rod being incredibly pished? Hard to tell, so hard to tell
Bit of both, I think.
Well the Stones added a chord to the song in their arrangement on Let it Bleed. And it sounds here like even if the Faces are not xeroxing the stones arrangement then they are self consciously trying to get around it, maybe twisting that just a little, to keep the Stones feel.
The added chord is right after “The blue light was my blues”
and before “The Red light was my mind”
Sorry I give this round to the Stones. I can’t see why the Faces even needed to do this song. It just makes them a cover band really.
Seriously? Rod’s always struck me as being pretty down to earth. Sure, he likes the glamour side of the job, but he’s also quite happy sitting in the pissing cold rain watching Celtic or Scotland play.
He has a couple good songs & he seems nice enough.
My wife & her best friend fawn over him & as a result I’ve seen him in concert a few times.
He is a very energetic performer and seems in great shape; I’ve never seen him give a low energy “gee I don’t want to be here” performance.
That’s the stage show, no idea what he’s like on a day off.
That’s cool. I just can’t see him out of costume or character.
It would be like running into Bowie in full Ziggy Stardust planting marigolds in his borders.
For some reason, I like Forever Young in the same weepy way I “like” Cat’s Cradle. Can’t help but make me think of my sons.
