"Do you like to party?" If someone asks you this question what are they really asking you?

I always just assumed they were looking for a fourth to play Pin the Tail on the Donkey.

I don’t know what it means, but I was riding my bike down the street the other day and I saw
expectopatronum’s mom and asked her if it was two-thirty and she called the cops on me.

In the kinds of crowds I’ve hung with, the word “party” has always been virtually synonomous with getting high. If someone asked me the question in the OP, I’d assume they were asking me if I wanted to blaze up.

Usually “…do you do/want to do Drugs?” On the street it’s a hooker propositioning a potential John.

“Would you like to purchase or otherwise partake in some drugs I have access to, most likely cocaine? Also, I am unaware of any affiliation with law enforcement you may have.”

Drugs in general, in my experience.

“Do you like to party?” means “Are you ok with drugs?” It doesn’t even have to mean “do you want to do drugs?”, it can just mean “If I light up a joint, will you be upset/uncomfortable/freak out?”

“Do you *want *to party?” is generally about sex.

When I was young, it meant “do you smoke pot?” No other drugs were implied with the question.

… wrong thread. Oops!

If you know what I mean.

In my crowd it’s always meant “do you want to drink award winning amounts of alcohol and make questionable life decisions?”.

Say no more!

That was the case when I was in college, 1983-1987.

Yeh, to me I always thought it implied, “Do you smoke pot?”. I’m sure it’s open to more interpretation depending on context.

In 127 Hours, the two girls ask Aron Ralston this, he kinda laughs and said (paraphrasing), “Uh, yeh, I guess.” I took that to mean pot/drugs.

Not just drugs, but usually meth specifically… least around here.

There is a drug house a couple house from mine. And at the corner store I’ve been asked this three times by a couple different black guys. It’s always been awkward, I assumed they were asking if I wanted to buy some coke or heroin. My answer is always no, I don’t party.

I assume it means coke, meth or ecstasy. For weed I feel like people tend to ask “are you cool?” or “do you partake?” rather than “do you party?”.

“Do you like to party?” - Do you take recreational drugs?
“Do you want to party?” - Let’s have sex stranger who will pay me for it.

Do you do drugs, with an undercurrent of “you’re not going to narc on us, are you, man?”

It’s been decades since I was asked that, and the person asking was a scantily-clad woman in high heels on a street corner. I don’t think she was looking for one more player for Musical Chairs.
