A GQ thread got me thinking about what life would be like if everybody had to remain a resident of the state they were born in. I’ve lived in four different states and I have no desire to move back to the state where I was born (New York), though there are worse places. I’m pretty happy in Maine (but there are probably better places.)
Question: Do you live in the same state where you were born?
I was born in the state of Pennsylvania and live in the state of Maryland. I still love my hometown of Philadelphia, though, and would not mind returning there, much as I like it here in Baltimore.
Yes. Born in New York, live in New York. Lived in New York all my life (excepting three years as a kid when I lived in New Jersey, which, we all know, is just a suburb of New York anyway.)
Born here and live here now (Springfield, IL) , though I lived elsewhere for a few years. I even had my daughter at the same hospital that I was born at - that count for anything?
Not only do I still live in California, where I was born, but I still live in the same small town I was born in. A lot of my friends are in the same situation. It does happen.
Yep. Was born in Annapolis, Maryland. Grew up there, and now live in Columbia, Maryland. Only time I’ve left was for my 4 years of college in Virginia.
My family lived in Texas, so, I was born in Texas, don’t blame me, I had no control over the situation. I left there at age 18 and went to school, lived and worked in New York, Boston, Los Angeles, Honolulu, Kodiak, Anchorage, San Francisco and Seattle. I call Washington state home.
I was an airline brat.
Born in Chicago, Ill.
4 yrs later I moved to Tampa, Fla.
a mere 10 months later, I moved to Hudson, Wi.
2 yrs later, Atlanta, Ga.
2.5 yrs later, Pittsburgh, Pa. (my favorite!)
3.5 yrs later, Seattle, Wa.
6 months later, Ft. Worth, Tx.
I liked it most of the time. But I didn’t want to leave Pittsburgh- I actually vowed to chain myself to a tree in the backyard!
Well I was born in Ohio lived there for awhile. Moved to Kentucky for a VERY short amount of time then to Indiana where I have lived for the last 7 1/2 years or so.
Born in Mass, currently live at school in NY, but I vote and pay taxes and all that good stuff in Mass still, so I’ll say that that’s where I live. It works out to about 5 months in Mass a year and 7 in NY. But when I graduate, it’s back to Mass I go.
I was born in Pennsylvania, lived there till I was 19. Then the “endless move” began…
