Do you live in the same state you were born in?

I was born in a small town in WA. Moved to Oregon. Moved to Arkansas. On to Texas. Back to Oregon. Back to Texas. Back to Oregon again. Then off to California. From there to the same little WA town I was born in.

Not only do I live in my hometown, I work in the hospital I was born in. Worse yet, for over a year, the room I was born in served as my office. My brother, sister and daughter were all born in this hospital (all delivered by the same doctor too). My girlfriend was born in the room I was born in.

When I told my boss I was born in that very room, he said I’d probably die there too.

I feel like I’m in a Stephen King short story.

Born, raised, educated, and now gainfully employeed in The Empire State (that’s New York). We also vacation here.

In six months, we will be moving to Mr. Del’s home state, Oklahoma. I feel like a complete traitor to my state. I have no idea why I’m so attached to it. I have these visions of being like Lassie, and am worried that I will start having uncontrollable urges to start walking in the direction of New York State.

PS Doc Daneeka, that’s a weird story about the room you were born in!

Born and raised in Chicago. Lived in Boston, MA for a couple of years, but I couldn’t wait to get back. I have plenty of wanderlust, but no desire to call any other place home.

Yes to the state (Washington), no to the city (Yakima). Not counting the 22 months I spent with my parents in the Deep South (Dad was going to FSU for his masters), I’ve lived in: Yakima, Moses Lake (Rest of the family is still there), Ephrata, Walla Walla, Spokane and Seattle.

Born in small town, UP, Michigan. Lived there until I was 18.

Moved to Minneapolis for 2 years, going to school.
Moved back to same small town, UP, Michigan. Lived there for about another year.
Moved to Colorado. Lived here for 9 years so far.
In a year and half, I’m moving back to small town, UP, Michigan. Like BunnyGirl, I expect to spend the rest of my life there. The rest of the world is fun to visit, but Michigan is home.

BunnyGirl: Don’t let your husband move you to Albequerque. You’ll hate it, I promise. It’s nice to live in the desert for a couple years, but then you start to long for seasons, trees, and lakes. If you’re anything like me, you’ll then spend the next several years scheming on how to get back to MI.

Athena, I agree!

He’s so funny: he’ll have a bad day or look through our guides from Alb. and he’ll say, “Wow, we should really think of moving; its so different out there. Think how cool it would be!”.

Then, we’ll be driving down a country road, see the sun setting over a wheat field, the air all golden the green trees behind it, and he’ll say, “What am I thinking!? We love Michigan - let’s never leave!”.

I just smile and nod the whole time!

If you don’t mind me asking - what town are you from? My family has property in Hermansville.

No, but I used to!

Har har har

I moved away from Arizona when I was 25.

Born in raised in a range of cities throughout California.

When I graduated high school, I came here to Milwaukee Wisconsin for college. I have now been here 2.5 years.

In another 8 months or so, I very well may be either in Chicago, Florida, Los Angeles or San Diego.

::sings “I’m a wanderer…oh a wanderer…a wander, wander wander–”::

I was born in Indiana and have lived there ever since except for a six month period in Maryland which was not particularly enjoyable.

All that is likely to end soon, though; I am planning to move to the Chicagoland area within the next few months, basically as soon as I can tie up some loose ends here.

I don’t have a particularly strong attachment to Indiana, but I would not care to live outside the Midwest.

Along with dragonlady and heraldgwena, I’m a native Californian living in California.

Though of course, as some of you may be aware, I grew up in Switzerland.

Born in New York. Still living in New York. Hopefully I won’t die in New York.

Born in Newport Beach, CA, lived in and around it almost my whole life (2 years in San Diego, 3 years in Boulder, CO).

Went to the same high school where my parents met & were sweethearts, got married in the same church, & my son was born in the same hospital I was.

Parents now live in the house my dad grew up in, how cool, and parents still own the house I grew up in.

I love it. Nowhere else I’ve lived has ever completely measured up, though SD & Boulder were nice.

And no, I’m not “that kind” of Newport native- no really big bucks, no German sports car, etc. Just an SUV and a big dog!

I was born in Santa Clara, CA (my parents lived in San Jose, but the hospital was in Santa Clara), moved about 20 minutes away, to Sunnyvale, when I was 3. Lived there until I came up to Seattle for college 4 years ago. I love it here, and my fiance grew up here, so we’re not planning on leaving anytime soon!

I was conceived in Wisconsin, and born on an Army base in Oklahoma. I was back in Wisconsin at one year old.

I remember prairie dogs and a pioneer covered wagon for some reason. My mother said we had been to a place that had that. I also remember a lot of people gathered in a room in the ground. My mother says we spent a lot of time in tornado shelters.

I now live in California, but I am from Ohio. A LONG WAY from Ohio

Born, raised and still live in the same town.

Hey, what can I say? I LOVE it here!

I was born and have always lived and will very probably continue to live in North Carolina. I actually live in Cary and am Quite rare. I met someone that lived here for 8 yrs and had never met a native North Carolinian before me. So odd.

It is such a great place for me - 'cause I love country side, beaches and mountains. I have all of that within one state.

Born in Blackstock, Ontario. Moved to Oshawa. Moved to Colbourg, moved to Sous St. Marie, moved to a couple of places near Marathon. Think I’m missing a couple, will have to ask Mom (I do remember we averaged between a year and six months per place for a while).
Then moved to Hagensburg, British Columbia. Moved to Bella Coola, moved to a couple of places around there.
The moved back to Oshawa, Ontario.
Moved to Takoma Park, Maryland. Moved to several places around Takoma Park/College Park area. Finally settled for now in Gaithersburg.

I grew up in Marquette. Can’t wait to get back there, even though MSN tells me it’s 10 degrees and snowing there. <sigh> I miss snow. Heck, I miss seasons. It’s always the same here in Colorado.

So nice to hear this! Pittsburgh has far too many people leaving and far too many people looking down on it. I have yet to hear of anybody who lived in Pittsburgh and didn’t love it. Come back! We need the population!

Here’s a story:
I was born in Pittsburgh (Eastern Suburbs) and lived there until I was 26 (mostly in Turtle Creek).

I got a job in Martinsburg, WV., working for the Coast Guard. (What is the*Coast Guard*doing in WV, you ask?) My wife and I, though, always planned to move back to Pittsburgh, so, in order to make that simple, when the time came, we decided to live in PA and I would commute to Martinsburg. How is this possible, you ask? We lived in Greencastle, PA on the MD border. It was about a 35 mile drive to Martinsburg on I-81, taking about 35-40 minutes.

This summer I took a position here at IUP back in the Pittsburgh area! Well, Indiana county, anyway. We live about 45 minutes from my mother-in-law and about 1 hour 15 minutes from the city. So not leaving PA paid off.

Montfort: You live in Rockville? Surely you can attend a few Phillies games. Philadelphia can’t be much more than an hour from there, can it?
