Do you make mundane photos with your phones

Inspired by this thread:

do you use the camara function of your cel.phone for mundane purposes, like:

  • making a photo of a product/price in a retail store,
  • making a photo of the parking space (in those huge parking decks, (e.g. E-18)
  • “external” screenshot of e.g. a financial transfer or e-com confirmation?

sure as heck, I’m guilty …

That’s one of the best reasons for having a camera with you all the time!

I always tell people at events to take a photo of their coat check ticket.

Yes! I only wish I’d thought of it sooner.
I go back later and delete the boring stuff.

Oh yes. It’s crazy what I see in my boring sheltered life.

No one really cares but me.

I take pics of anything that catches my eye…mundane, cool, weird, crazy, you name it.

ohhh . … i forgot:

I take pics of my smallish bills (e.g. breakfasts), before presenting them for reembursement to my employers … as I constantly lose those little slips …

saved my a ton of money over the years

but do you for non-artistic purposes?

Yep. For example, just a few hours ago I took a photo of a huge branch that broke off and was blocking a walkway in our apartment complex.

Google Photos

If we see an item in a store that we may want to investigate further before deciding on a purchase, I always take pictures of the item and any information the store has displayed. I’ve also taken pictures of automobile stickers and the vehicles they are attached to. It sure beats carrying a note pad and pen and writing down notes.

Someone rear-ended us one time and it sure was handy to take pictures right then and there.

If you need to read the password on the back of a hard to see internet router/modem device, take a picture and then zoom in. Much much easier.

I do this all the time.

It is especially useful when doing any sort of repair to use as a reference when it’s time to put things back together.

I’ve taken photos of a snowblower carburetor I replaced, a GFCI outlet, the wiring to a ceiling fan, and a dishwasher part I swapped out, among many others.

I’ve also been known to send a photo to “the boss” from a supermarket (“Is this the kind of salsa we like?”)

mmm

I do it constantly. We keep a whiteboard on the fridge for the weekly grocery list so everyone can write what they want (and I can erase the things they just didn’t search the pantry for well enough), and I take a photo of it, then use the edit feature to mark things off as I shop. I take pictures of weird bugs and plants I see to identify them later and of neighborhood wildlife sightings. I have photos of my insurance cards, my vaccination card, and my car registration, just in case. And, of course, I have hundreds and hundreds of pictures of my cats being cute.

Tonight I took a photo of a recipe on my monitor rather than save it to my bookmarks so I could read it in the kitchen, 15 feet away.

Photos of appliance specification plates figure a lot into my little on-phone photo album.

I have a paper grocery list, but I take a photo of it instead aof taking the paper. I started doing this when I managed to bring the paper list, only to lose it in the store.

I take pictures of serial numbers in hard to reach places. I took pictures of some screws next to a ruler because I kep forgetting what lengths I needed. Also the box of screws I needed to get more of. I’ve got a picture of the back of my router that I can give to anyone who wants to connect to my wifi. I have a picture of my breaker box that I swear I will print out and mark what each breaker matches(don’t hold your breath)

On the latest photo contest in Cafe Society , I took a picture of the name and part of the photo for my short list.

I’ve also used my phone as an ersatz magnifying glass a time or two.

I have a folding whiteboard cover I put over my dining table for meetings and writing sessions. When I need to transcribe notes from it to share or further development, I snap a picture of the notes, then open the pics on my computer to work from them.

I also do the model/serial number picture thing, and I will take a picture of cabling, the guts of electronics, or mechanical bits in hard-to-reach spaces so I can assess whether I can work with them in place or if I need to tear things down more.

I have numerous photos of rental cars and their plates. Sometimes I forget what kind or color car I rented. I also need the plate number when I check into a hotel.

I have a photo album for things I need. The milk carton is empty? I snap a photo of it and put it in that album. Later, at the grocery store, when the milk is in my cart I move that photo to the end of that album. When I need milk again I move that photo to the front of that album.

Truly mundane, but it works for me.

It’s also useful to magnify things when you forget your reading glasses.

:slightly_smiling_face:

I always take a picture of the parking space number in a big garage, or at the airport when I’m gone for more than a couple days. Did this two days ago in fact.

Also when the serial number label is positioned at the back of the appliance or device, such that you would have to pull the thing away from the wall to see the code or whatever with your naked eyes. Much easier to just slip the phone into the narrow space and photograph the number.

Now that I think about it, I found a few months ago that the model info for my garage door opener was on top of the track mounted unit, facing the ceiling. I had a choice of finding a very tall ladder, or just standing on a step stool and holding my phone over my head and photographing downward. Guess which I chose.
