I was looking at my CD rack, and I realized I have copies of Pantera’s “Far Beyond Driven” and Everclear’s “Songs From An American Movie Volume 2”. I have listened to one or two songs on each of these, but I’ve never listened all the way through.
I bet other people out there have albums that have been similarly neglected. Tell me about them.
I also have a couple of albums I have listened to that don’t deserve it. I have a copy of Nine Inch Nails - Things Falling Apart. I really like Reznor, but this album is CRAP. Also share your experiences with albums such as these.
Yes, I also never listened that Pantera’s Far Beyond Driven. Similarly, I also got Machine Head, Fear Factory, and Slayer through Columbia House. If I actually physically purchase the album though, this usually doesn’t happen.
“Kamakiriad” by Donald Fagen. I bought it because there was a single from it that I briefly liked, but I can’t even remember the title or the words now.
One of the Foo Fighters albums. My brother bought it for me, but it doesn’t have any of the Foo Fighters songs that I like, so I listened to it once, and then put it away.
Hole’s album would be the other one. I bought it, started to listen to it, kept getting interrupted for three days, and then it vanished. Gone. Cover is still here, but the CD has never been seen since, and no one can work out where it went. I’ve moved twice since then, still no sign of it. And I never even got to listen to it all the way thought! Argh!
I had a CD of Stephen Oliver’s and Tim Rice’s “Blondel” musical on my shelf for over two years, and finally listened to it January 1, 2001. It is really good, and I’m kicking myself for not hearing it sooner.
Odd cause I usually bring CDS home and listen to them right away.
cazzle, I had the same thing happen to me. The cd finally showed up when the cd player got opened up for repairs. It had somehow worked itself out of it’s spot and fell inside of the player.
I have many cd’s or tapes I haven’t listened to all the way through, starting with a bunch of one hit wonders back in the 80’s, and continuing with the occasional soundtrack or compilation album where I only like a couple of songs. The last disappointment was Meredith Brooks. I really liked two of her songs, and when I bought her cd, they were the only two songs that were listenable, IMHO.
I have at least ten CD’s that I have never listened too. Almost all from small bands who sell copies in the lobby or whatever. Only the next morning do I realize that I didn’t so much like the band, but rather I liked the beer served at the club.
The strangest: a CD from a band called The Minibosses. They specialize in rock covers of videogame theme tunes (what the hell was I thinking!?).
“Ladies And Gentlemen…” by Spiritualized and “Soft Bulletin” by Flaming Lips. Considering what I like in music, these should do the trick for me, but despite repeated attempts, these albums just leave me cold.
“Sophtware Slump” by Grandaddy is in danger of joining the above two as well.
That Lenny Kravitts album with ‘Goin my way’ on it.
Someone gave it to me c’ause they got fed up with it cluttering up their CD rack, now it clutters up mine, I don’t even remeber the title, I’ve played it once and I nearly fell into a coma, it was so boring.
When I used to buy CD’s, I would listen to the “hit” song the entire time I would listen to it, and then that would be hit. Around a year ago was when I really started listening to the entire disc.
And I have really never bought CD’s without listening to them. I’d listen to them the second I got it and listen to it for a while, then when I got another, I’d listen to that one, etc.
Some CD’s I haven’t listened to in a long time, however. Some I listen to almost every day, every other day.
Bought the soundtrack album of THE TEN COMMANDMENTS 15 years ago for $10, thinking if would increase in value—can’t give it away.
Went through my whole collection several weeks ago----went–"what the f— " over 2 of them. Both disco. STEP II by SYLVESTER and some one sided thing by GIORGIO MORODER called CHASE.(from MIDNIGHT EXPRESS)
