Do you sleep through the night?

A discussion on LiveJournal about what age babies started sleeping through the night got me to thinking. I’m 34 and I still don’t sleep through the night. I always wake up at least once, if not several times. I look at the clock, roll over, adjust the covers, whatever… then go back to sleep. Or sometimes I wake up and have to read for 30 minutes to go back to sleep. I never really thought of this as unusual, but now I’m kind of curious: On a typical night, do you sleep all the way through until morning? (I’m also asking this elsewhere)

34 years old female here and what I wouldn’t give to sleep through a night. Just once. Sigh.

No. I used to as a kid, but now I wake up almost every night to flip over the pillow if it gets to hot, or to add/remove a blanket.

Yes. Sort of, since I wake when I wake and that’s it, and often it’s too early for the opinion and taste of the rest of the world, but yes.

A couple years back my boss and HR were driving me up a wall so badly that I wasn’t being able to get my 6-8hr beauty sleep all in one shot and didn’t wake up feeling rested. I mentioned it to a coworked and she ran an improptu poll. Out of some 200 people in our team (high pressure project) and some 40 questioned, I was the only one who took that uninterrupted sleep for granted.

Wow, the Google ad at the bottom says:

Democrats Suck
They take our money, and rob our morality. What do you think?

I usually sleep 8-10 hours without waking. My all-time record is 14 hours of unbroken snooze…

I used to sleep uninterrupted, or sufficiently so that I didn’t remember waking up. But now I wake up frequently – with back pain, it’s hard to roll over without waking up a bit; and then the cat has to come curl up right under my chin and lick my face every time I roll over; and then I have to fight my hubby for the blankets; and when all that isn’t happening, I have to get up and pee at least once every night.

I recently actually slept straight through for about seven hours and was completely shocked at how lovely it was to do that again and how rested I felt.

I used to sleep through the night without a problem, then I had my daughter. Now she’s getting to the point where she sleeps through more often than not, but I still wake up once or twice.

I usually sleep through.

Same here.

Almost always. It runs in my family. We’re good sleepers.

Lately, tho, I just got a new down comforter, which I love, but I keep waking up sweaty in the middle of the night (ugh). I guess I have to wait for it to get colder out.

Is that where my morality got to?

Nope, sleeping through the night is very rare for me, but I’m lucky in that I can usually fall asleep again after waking up.

I haven’t slept through the night for longer than I can remember. I envy people who can do it though, and I’m proper jealous of 'im indoors who manages to remain comatose for 8-10 hours at a time. Honestly, the neighbourhood could detonate and he wouldn’t bat an eyelid.

I kick ass at sleeping  Takes me a while to fall asleep but once I’m there I stay asleep until my alarm clock goes off or my cat starts to play hop on pop.

Nope. Never, anymore.

I used to sleep like a rock. Nothing would wake me. These days, I’d say I wake up at least 20-50 times a night.

I’m very, very tired.

I used to. I used to have a hard time getting to sleep but after that I’d sleep like a log. Now I can get to sleep (go all the way down to tired and turn right) but I wake up in the middle of the night and can’t get back to sleep. Nothing like being wide awake at 3am :frowning: . Of course now I just go on line  but doesn’t do much for the morning.

I don’t. Probably some of it could be traced to the prodigious amount of Diet Mt. Dew I drink, but you would think I would be acclimated to the caffeine by now.

Susan

I feel really bad for some of you. I had no idea that some people slept so poorly. :frowning: I am in my mid twenties. I take my clothes off. Wrestle the dogs out of the way in order to get into the bed. Turn off the light. Then smack the crap out of the snooze button when it goes off in the morning. It happens that fast. Of course there can be occasional interuptions in the middle of the night though.

Not recently, but that’s only because I’ve been afflicted with a cough for the past several weeks.

Generally, yes.

I fall asleep, sleep until either my bladder requires emptying with sufficient urgency that it’s a now or never situation or until my bigger cat deems naptime to be over for The People. Since he’s approximately 15 pounds and his chosen method of waking up involves walking back and forth across your belly, he’s hard to ignore.

Whoa- that’s not sleeping, it’s a series of brief naps. You should see a doctor.

I sleep through the night unless I’ve been drinking (beer or wine) within a couple hours of going to bed. Even if I pee right before getting into bed, I’ll wake up once or twice during the night to pee. If no drinking, I’ll go a solid 8 hours. However, if it’s an insomnia night, it could take me 4 hours to get to sleep. But once I’m there, I’m good until morning.
