‘Flock of sheep?’ Um, whatever. Yeah, everyone on Fathom agrees on everything. Always. Consider the people in that discussion. OpalCat, Tom, Polycarp…all people who follow the crowd. And everyone knows I follow along with whatever anyone says. Suuuuure.
And c’mon Ang…who are the only ones on that thread making fun of her? You and Kelli. Everyone is following the policy of “live and let live.” Why the hell can’t you? And that’s how I know you support kelli, btw. Only two people giving a certain opinion? Hmmm…let’s think here.
Falcon, Angkins: I like you both. So I feel it my duty to point out at this stage that the two of you are quarreling over something too minute to mention.
WE ARE BASICALLY TALKING ABOUT A WOMAN WHO IS SUPPOSEDLY MARRIED TO THE BERLIN WALL.
Whether you believe it or not is an other issue, but I refuse to stand by and watch two sweet gals like yourselves bash each others heads in over something that is DYING to be laughed at. It isn’t that serious, and it shouldn’t GET serious. Hell it’s not like anyone said something horrible like "I think soccer sucks!
So here we go… shake hands, make up already. And if you don’t, you’re both off to bed without desert!
This one is definitely stringing some people along. Married to a wall? For what? How? Why?
As far as posting from the other board at Fathom to here, it happens all the time. We post from there, they post from here. You can see the same topic going in both places most of the time. No big deal. Most of the people on Fathom still lurk here, as a lot of Dopers also lurk there. Cross-posting is no crime.
Alpha, call me a broad again and yer getting smacked next time I see you.
And the reason I was angry at the cross-posting was because it seemed (and still does) like a cheap attempt to get people to agree with Ang, since we were all promoting tolerance over on the other board.
Or wait, is that just me being cruel again, ultress?
Has anyone asked for the Wall’s opinion of all this?
Reporter: So what do you think of your new wife?
Wall: (Looks stonily at camera)
Reporter: No comment eh?
Wall:
Reporter: Some would say that your wife is a fruitcake. Do you have an opinion on that?
Wall:
Reporter: There you have it. The Wall has little to say on the issue. Well, as a treat for the audience today we have footage of this same Wall partying during the eighties. There’s lots of smoke… Look There! Teenage girls with hammers… Obviously this wall was quite a headbanger in its time. What a scandal…
Cold, I agree with you 110%. This issue IS dying to be laughed at, and that was the point!! FWIW, I like soccer, it’s fun to play and watch and I like being the parent on the sideline screaming and cheering as her kid plays!
Wally, bring it on baby!!!
Alphagene, thanks for the offer, but I am already married to a human being…well at least others can hear him speak!
Define, please, how this this woman’s particular beliefs constitute “bullshit.”
This woman believes that objects have personalities and that she is married to a wall. She is not demanding that her health insurance pay claims for injuries suffered by the wall. She is not petitioning for German citizenship based on her husband’s citizenship. She’s basically an odd bird that holds a particular belief that makes her happy and does not appear to be doing anything else that impacts on any other person on this planet. How does that equate to “bullshit?”
Yes, I agree that this woman’s ideas seem downright nutty. But unless their particular brand of lunacy affects me, I am more than willing to share the earth with people who believe in UFOs, psychics, past lives, faked moon landings, talking to their houseplants to help them grow, lucky charms, fate, or a carpenter who got nailed to a tree 2,000 years ago. Just because I believe someone else’s beliefs are in error doesn’t entitle me to call those beliefs “bullshit,” any more than it entitles me to call your ideas by that scornful epithet.
On the other hand, your post was somewhat ambiguous. Perhaps the “bullshit” you referred to was other posters expressing the belief, like mine, that this woman was unusual but otherwise inoffensive. That being the case, your plea for “individuality in their opinions” is hollow at best, and hypocritical at worst.
This is what I call ‘bullshit’.I suppose I could have called it insanity, crap, poppycock, bunk, delirious, demented, irrational, unbalanced, fanatical, delusional etc.
Take your pick.
AHHAHAHAHAAHAHHAHHHAHAHHAHAHAHA!!! THat is soooo Funny!!! Do you think she will be mad that I have a piece of her “Husband” sitting in my closet? I also broke the piece of my self, is that assault now?
If this person ever regains her sanity, it should be pretty easy to get an annullment.
If the political climate should change, and the powers that be want the wall to come down, do they need this woman’s permission. If they don’t get said permission and take it down anyway, would she have a “loss of consortium” claim?
You’re certainly entitled to your own perspective.
But when your grandmother talks about feeling the ghostly presence of your dead grandfather around the house, do you respond with “that’s crap, grandma”?
When your best friend tells you that she has a special suit that she wears on job interviews that brings her good luck, do you call her “delusional”?
When your sister somehow escapes injury in a bad car accident and credits a guardian angel or Jesus for protecting her, is she “unbalanced”?
These beliefs are no more or less rational than Mrs. Berlin Wall’s belief that objects have feelings. But I’m sure you don’t respond to these people by turning around to everyone else in the room and shouting
Let’s try a test: Mrs. BW has her e-mail address on her website. Since you feel so strongly about her ideas, feel free to e-mail her with your opinions about her. Be sure to throw in all the terms you’ve used above so that she fully understands your point. Post a copy of it here so we can all appreciate your handiwork.
If you are willing to do so, you are a judgmental busybody. If you are not, you are a hypocrite. Your choice.
