Do you still watch new Simpsons episodes?

I stopped watching regularly a few years ago but this thread prompted me to watch the last few from the most recent season. The gags, especially signs, one liners, and homages (Comic Book Guy’s retirement a la Spider-Man #50) are still quite funny and often brilliant. But the stories themselves aren’t very compelling, funny, or original. We’ve just seen these characters go through so many things with zero lasting consequences that it’s just too low stakes to keep my attention.

The last new episode I’ve watched, other than the Halloween episodes, was sometime back in season 8. I got tired of the characters never getting any older.

And died super young, not way past his prime.

I think I still have my pair of these somewhere (bought more than 20 years ago)

I quit watching in September 1999 because that’s when I got rid of my TV. I didn’t get another one until 2011, but by then I’d moved overseas. I’m not even sure if they show new Simpsons episodes over here. They do rerun the old ones (dubbed) but it seems they’re all episodes that I’ve already seen, back from the first decade of the show. I watched one or two, just for the novelty of hearing Bart and Homer speak German, but nowadays I’m only aware of the show via brief glimpses when channel-surfing.

Mozart died at 35. The Simpsons are in season 33. Interesting.

It’s still on my DVR auto-list, and I still watch.

I find the whole “The Simpsons isn’t funny anymore” trope a bit overstated. Of course the early seasons were great. But in the beginning, they were pushing boundaries that don’t really exist anymore. The show occupies a different space now than it once did, and some people refuse to accept that.

Some episodes are sharper than others (as with pretty much every TV show) but I still laugh consistently, and to me it’s worth the 23 minutes a week for half a year. YMMV.

On my last hgv ride, I was listening to Disney 3d movies. Fun times.

I really liked the Death Note and Westworld segments of the latest Treehouse of Horror.

I thought it was the best one in years.

I’d vist Simpsonsworld.

I’d stay far, far away from the Big Mouth one.
