Do you think the media has an obsession with portraying men of color overly masculine?

You have this backwards. Straight White Christian Males are not in any way under attack in this country. They’re just used to being undeniably on top of the heap and able to tell everyone else how they’re supposed to act, what box they’re stuck in, what the proper religion is, etcetera. And now they’re being told that other people get to decide these things too, get to vote, get to have different religions, throw their boxes away. And it makes those SWCM really upset and put upon that things are getting to be different from the way they say the world should be.

So a small number of them have turned into whiny little bitches about how upset and hurt that makes them and how they’re being attacked when they continue to insist that everything be the way they want it to be.

And I say that as a 55 year old Straight, White, raised Christian, Male.

To the privileged, equality feels like oppression.

I believe you.
Off-topic, but can you tell me a bit about the Southern Strategy.

Money faction of the Republican party sees how effective southern ministers are at raising money, promises they’ll vote for religious moral bills in exchange for votes on giving everything to the rich. Over the last 40 years this has driven wealth inequity in the United States to levels not seen since the 1830’s and not seen in Europe since oh, about 1917, when half the world was in the throes of violent revolution about exactly that disparity of wealth. See the Gini Coefficient, a measure of inequality, as shown on this graph.

For many, may years, blue-collar whites in the Northeast and Midwest always voted a straight Democratic ticket. So did working class Southerners.

In the Sixties, the Democrats made a conscious choice to jettison blue collar whites to appeal to educated elites, as well as women, African Americans and other ethnic minorities.

Richard Nixon’s strategists, including Kevin Phillips, saw a chance to pick up the voters that the Democrats were hell bent on dumping, and started appealing to them. Ever since, the Republicans have had a hold on the South and on working class whites, while the Democrats have formed a coalition of the East and West Coasts, the highly educated AND the thoroughly uneducated.

So would most libertarians at this time be held as conservatives then?

Libertarians tend to be fiscally conservative and socially liberal. It is my experience that they vote based on economics more than social issues, but I have no cite for that.

In my experience, Libertarians are people who hold untenable economic positions, give lip service to more liberal social policies while always exclusively voting Republican.

RIABNs. Republicans In All But Name.

Just to add a key point to the Southern Strategy description:

The issue that sparked the Southern Strategy was civil rights for black people – prior to the Civil Rights Act, Democrats were the more overtly racist party who used coded and not-so-coded racist language to appeal to racist white voters (and at the time, most southern white voters were either overtly racist or tolerant of racism, while most black southerners were unable to vote due to Jim Crow voting discrimination). When the national Democratic party (LBJ and others) made the decision to support Civil Rights, they alienated the great mass of racist southern white voters, and the Republican party made the (obvious) decision to try to appeal to this large group of voters who suddenly felt homeless, with messaging designed to appeal to racist white voters who felt aggrieved by changes in society like the Civil Rights Act.

To add to that, there was evidence of this growing split during development of the New Deal in the 1930s. The New Deal sought to add protections for employees to guard them against economic recession, but Southern lawmakers would not sign on the deal unless the protections excluded domestic laborers and other black-dominated professions. This was explicitly stated on the House floor as being necessary to preserve racial order in the South.

As a result, many black people did not have these protections. Legislative discrimination would continue from there, such that during the WWII Era economic boom, the sudden explosion of the middle class left many black people behind. Intentional legislative discrimination is one of many factors contributing to the racial wealth disparity in the US today.

I think it’s a bit more accurate to say they made a conscious choice to stand up for civil rights, knowing that it would cost them the votes of some blue collar whites. Doing the right thing may lose you the support of people who don’t want the right thing done.

And one more thing to say, this mainly seems to be a US and Western Europe problem/situation. At least from what I’ve gathered.
But really I could 0 fucks about which race is the most masculine, yeah I understand white men relatively-speaking still run the world to this day, hence why the intersectionality principle is still applied. Eastern European and Russian men still are perceived very masculine.

And with all that said, I noticed a similar situation with men raised by single mothers too, who get very insecure of their masculinity.

I mean I been raised by mom for the last 10 years, I get very extreme urges to act overly masculine from time to time. So do the other bunch of factors I mentioned play a role too, but yeah.

I also have to take into account that there are various expectations of masculinity varied and dependent on ethnicity and culture.
So like to the whites[In America of course], main ideas of masculinity usually include hunting, wood chopping, riding trucks and some hot rods, fishing and acting like a cowboy
To the so called Latinos, is all about boxing, construction, singing regae[basically the Latin American version of hip hop], soccer/futbol, drinking beer, etc
The study of masculinity in general does fascinate me quite a bit.

But I mean I am sure regardless of race that our main interests will always include

Sports, cars, ladies and just working our asses off.

And even so, most masculine cultures can intersect at one point or another anyways.
Just look at country rap.

So basically not trying to denounce your side???

Man, I hate those false alerts…

What are these “false alerts” you keep mentioning?

Usually the “View first unread” button takes forever to disappear. After like 10 or 11 refreshes and is annoying.

Luciano700, you don’t get to just keep bumping your thread for no reason. From the FAQ:

Bumping your own thread
If you start a thread, and after a while think you would like more comments on it, you may be tempted to “bump” the thread by adding a post to make the thread reappear back at the top of the forum list. We strongly discourage this practice, but since the boards are so busy sometimes a single “bump” will bring about good results.

Our guidelines:
[ul][li]Wait until a suitable time has elapsed (at least, until your thread is no longer visible on the first page of the forum)[/li][li]Bump your thread only once[/li][li]Do not make a habit of always bumping each of your threads[/li][li]When you bump your own thread, it is preferrable to include additional information relevant to the original post, which may encourage others to respond[/li][li]Posting a thank you to those who responded to your question is not considered a “bump”[/ul][/li][/quote]
Emphasis added.

You’ve had your single bump, and then some. This thread is closed.
