Pretty much what I said in the earlier thread. I’m very comfortable in my dorkiness.
Man, I remember my phone holster for my old Nokia 5190, 1999-2003. Then when I did flip phones it was a cover that incorporated a belt clip, and upon going to iPhone it has since been case and screenguard and into a pocket it goes.
As has been mentioned, gents’ clothing styles privilege us with convenient pockets. And I’m the sort of man who does not care much about “the lines” being spoiled by actually putting things in said pockets. At least the device growth trend seems to have blessedly plateaued.
Y’know I wonder, some of the actual holster makers could tap into this market for managing your devices… as others have pointed out with phones, as with firearms, retention has to be taken into account.
I’m a middle- aged man and I don’t think i’ve ever used one. I remember men my age using them in the '90s. I wear well-fitting but comfortable clothing. I don’t wear super baggy clothing of my youth or “dad jeans,” but my slimish (not skinny) cut pants always have front pockets large enough for a smart phone. Or, I actually do just carry it in my hand a lot and set it down wherever when I someplace like home or work. Are senior men now wearing super skinny jeans or something? What are you wearing that doesn’t have front pockets? Or are they some baggy dad jeans that are cut in a way that there’s no room for anything but tiny pockets?
I wear Levis 550’s. Advertised as ‘relaxed fit’. But no way am I going to put a phone in any pocket. I can get to, say my pocket knife or hearing aids out of a front pocket while sitting. I would have to stand if I had a phone in a front pocket. I can get my wallet out of my right rear pocket while sitting, but fear that putting my phone in my left rear pocket would unnecessarily put stress on the phone. Maybe break the case.
Having the phone in a holster on my hip protects it and gives me immediate access, standing or sitting.
Whatever floats your boat. A holster is the best solution for me.
I voted no.
Back pocket or hand when walking, depending on the clothes. Car in the Drink holder. Work on desk. Home, night stand or desk. My phone case is also my wallet, so I only have to grab one when heading out.
I’m an old fart, but I haven’t worn a cellphone holster in about 15+ years. First phone was a StarTac, no holster, front pocket was fine, phone was tiny. The company started distributing work Blackberrys, VPs first, and everyone had a holster, since that advertised you were important. When facilities workers and security guards started showing up with them, the holsters disappeared. I had a leather case for mine that allowed me to stick it in the same pocket as keys and stuff (cost of leather case- $8).
For my first smartphone, I bought a holster, screen protector, and case. I never ended up using any of these. Just reserved my left front pocket for my phone. No problems pulling it out when sitting down (in jeans or dress slacks).
Since then, I’ve bought large phones (two Galaxy Notes and currently the Galaxy S24) and still have no problem with fitting the phones in my front pocket and using it that way. I can’t pull it out while drving (bucket seats), but that’s kind of a feature, not a bug, innit? For phone calls, I’m using my car, and if I’m tempted to text during driving, I can’t.
I have two–one informal, the other sharper-looking.

I don’t get it. Are we built differently? I have a a big phone and I’m fatter than I should be but I never have to get up to get my phone out of my pocket. At most I’ll have to momentarily lean to one side.
I do a lot of lifting and moving items, all day outside and inside, so my phone needs to be protected. Just cant use pants pockets. I tried phone holsters, but for me, they seem to get snagged on things.
Ive always used some sort of fancy pack, put small tools, phone, mints, keys etc I can move the pack from side to side or to the front or back.
Dirt and debris can be an issue with charging port no matter what I use. So I try and protect phone when serious debris and dirt is involved. Put in on a ledge, and then forget where!
I was gifted a nice 17 pocket Scott e vest (they have some with 42 pockets!)https://www.scottevest.com/ they are more for travelers, but it works out well for driving and going shopping. Sometimes I have trouble remembering just which pocket my glasses are in though! Too many choices!
Of course we are. I’m 6’2" 220 lb’s. I used to be 6’4" and about 190 lbs. I used to have size 12 feet, they are now 13. So, gravity is doing it’s job on me. Either that or the ‘fashion’ industry.
I’d like to report that this evening I carried my phone in my left pocket instead of my holster. So far, nothing bad has happened. But it’s early yet.
Not the left pocket! Abort! Abort!
Stranger
Ditto. I’ve even hired a tailor to make my pockets deeper to better accommodate phones, keys (right front pocket), wallet (also right) etc.
Dammit!
Because they are wearing women’s pants. And don’t want to post an exorbitant amount to expand the pockets. Or wear pants tight enough that it wouldn’t work anyway.
In my experience, the issue is not the size of the phone but the size of the pocket. Women’s clothes have famously small pockets, but I even have some men’s jeans whose front pockets are too small to hold a phone.
I’ve become comfortable not just with the holster, but the sturdy plastic and rubber case that fits around the phone so it snaps in the holster. Some times my hands a quite dry, and that case makes it easier to hold the phone. It also protects it if you do happen to drop it.
That and I would have to stand to get it in and out. And I wear relaxed fit jeans. Not to tight, I have to cinch up a belt or they start slipping.
No way it’s going in my front pocket.
Not something I normally even think about, but noticed while mowing yesterday, even getting in and out of the small confines of my tractor, with steering wheel & potentially hydraulic levers in the way, I have never snagged the phone case. And I realized that I never had the problem crawling in, around, and out of our crawl space when replumbing or bringing up the new gas line for the living room gas heater. Can’t say as I’ve snagged it in over 15 years of using a holster. But apparently it does happen. Now my tape measure that rides on my left front pocket is a different matter altogether.
Thats impressive!! Crawl spaces everything seems to get peeled away. I work a fair amount in multiple gardens, vines seem to be the worst culprit, but interlocking sticks etc can get pretty grabby. The fanny pack gets snagged as well, but you can slide them around a bit to free yourself. I actually buried my flip phone in the compost pile, after it popped out of a simple Velcro holster, I retraced my steps for the morning, and called it with another phone. Funny to hear it ring down in the pile. Lost it again in another garden and found it a year later when replanting…
Probably could be a whole thread on lost phones and where they end up…
edit to add: I have a work iphone now, employer supplied, so I have kept my old flip phone and account with Verizon, to locate said iphone, which I seem to leave around a lot, usually in safe places. Im getting ancient, and short term memory…haha jeez ![]()
Many people responding to this thread don’t fall into this category.
Also my wife and two adult daughters have never used phone holsters.
