He went way too far. He was hitting them even when his coworkers were trying to stay his hand. So yeah, he deserves what he gets. That being said, I hope the two douchebag customers get busted for assault, too, and I don’t feel too much (read: any) sympathy for them.

In that part post that you quoted me on I was commenting on something Bill said. If you look at what I said earlier, I mentioned that as far as self-defense is concerned, he may not have gone overboard he continued to beat them after they were on the ground. I even stated that he was well within his rights to push them away at the very beginning of the video and even swing the metal pipe around after they came around the back of the counter.
But like I said earlier at some point he switched from defense to offense and that’s the problem. And also, like I said in my ETA, I think he may have been on the offense the entire time. I’m guessing the girls didn’t slap him for checking the 50, I’m guessing this story goes beyond that.
Man, the only exciting thing that ever happened to me when I worked at McDonald’s was one time a lady called me a bitch because I wouldn’t sell her a NASCAR hat for 50% off. I don’t even know where I’d find a metal pipe in that store.
I see that one of the charges against the girls is trespassing. That supports my theory that there’s more to this then we’re aware of. If they were trespassing it implies they been asked not to be on the property anymore. Of course, maybe they’re just troublemakers, maybe they’ve been passing bad $50’s, but maybe there’s a history between them and him.
Wouldn’t trespassing be the part where they jumped the counter?

A fractured skull and a broken arm. Christ; I probably wouldn’t have watched if I knew that. And suffered, most likely, while laying on the ground. Basically, with a little bad luck, that’s a videotape of a homicide. Probably a slap to the face wasn’t worth that.

Yeah, the trespassing charge most likely was a result of the girl jumping the counter.
True, you may find out that you aren’t as big a badass as you thought.
My feeling is that she hit him, he should back away. Don’t escalate, diffuse. Once they follow him, the game changes. It’s pretty obvious they are planning a beat down and he has every right to stop them from hurting him.
But after they are down and it’s clear they are no longer a threat … you keep beating them while everyone is screaming for you to stop? That’s just sick.
Trespassing (to the best of my knowledge) isn’t retroactive. It would have to stem from a previous incident* involving those girls at that location.
*keeping in mind that ‘incident’ isn’t really the right word. It’s private property and the owner can’t ask them to stay away for any reason she wants provided it isn’t a protected class thing. If they come back after she’s asked them to stay away, they’re trespassing. Having said that, it’s usually an ‘incident.’

I realize you suspect this all stemmed from some “baby daddy” drama, but I think you are incorrect about this. I’m pretty sure that trespassing can pretty much mean going on property that you don’t belong on.
In NYC, trespass includes remaining after you have been instructed to leave.
I don’t think he went terribly too far.
You can see in the vid that they aren’t out of commission once they go to the ground; he doesn’t reach down far enough to hit somebody on the ground. Watch it more carefully. When you have x number of people coming at you behind a counter, where any effing fool knows you don’t go, who knows what to expect?
They posters here all seem to post as if she hit him, and he tracked her down, just to punish her for offending his dignity.
The very OP says the employee ‘assaulted’ the woman.
Also, they didn’t just slap him and run. They came back behind the counter…in a MacDonald’s. If I had done that, I’d have been shot, or still had my but being beat, and everybody here would say that I should have known better.
They had most of it, or maybe all of it, coming.
And, it’s sort of a trait of being in a fight that you put somebody down, and make sure that they stay down.
