Do you want me to join SDMB?

If you want to pony up your $15, please do. How long do you think you will last as a member?

BTW: I answered the question you asked me offline.

Jim

I kinda like him. He makes things interesting, at least.

Is “fuck off, attention whore” an acceptable answer? I mean really, who asks a question like this?

Couldn’t care less, honestly. Who are you again?

Yes. Join.

Yes. No. Maybe. We’re not the boss of you.

Dnftt.

Once again, I’m a sucker for the underdog. Join, stay, entertain us. Try not to get yourself banned.

You make me laugh most of the time.

ETA: Sure.

Does he get a refund if he joins, then is banned?

Nope.

(ETA: that’s AFAIK, anyway. I’m obviously not speaking in any kind of official capacity.)

You answered your own question when you asked it.

If you need more guidance that that, consult your Magic 8 Ball.

I concur with the distinguished goddess from Ohio in the matter.

I say yes, go for it.

Hmm, I will not dismiss this consideration with a simple answer. I haven’t actually decided if you’re a clumsy troll, or just someonewho is new and therefore kind of annoying.

Well, true; but I’ve got to admit that reading how many people have so many different responses has been very interesting for me. It really sort of shows how different we all interpret his behavior.

BRB

Sure, why not.

It used to be, “I’M OUTTA HERE! YOU’LL APPRECIATE JUST WHAT YOU HAD WHEN I’M GONE!” Now we get, “Just you wait until I’m paid up for a year! I’ll make you wish you’d never heard of me!”

Such strides.

Okay I embark to create a reply of massive TLDR proportions, let us begin.

Your name, first off, seems deliberately misleading although clever. I like it, and you should be proud to have such a screen name. Yet you accuse most of us of misunderstanding what means while at the same time refusing to correct us. It’s one thing to be ambiguous, but you’ve taken the “wouldn’t you like to know” route and that is annoying.

Let me compare you to two other member. Both of whom were also guilty of coming off as attention whores. Early on into their memberships I watched them both closely to figure out if they were trolls or not. The first actually sprang up almost exactly a year ago to the date that you arrived. He was a silly fellow, starting some interesting threads, but also starting a handful of really stupid MPSIMS threads. Sure it was great stuff but you could tell that there was a general atmosphere of annoyance at the behavior. He even went on to start some Pit threads that seemed to teeter on trainwreck potential, but his general friendly and playful demeanor usually corrected the tides and trends that those threads traveled in. A year later he is a much more “normal” member, and I would go so far as saying that he is a friend of mine IRL.

The second member popped up this past autumn. He also started many interesting threads, but he also began a couple of GD threads that seemed to touch on some touché issues around here. Nothing early on as jaw-droppingly stupid as “Should we tax fat people”, but still a little… y’know. Now you have been generally good with thread etiquette, meaning you don’t write and abandon your OP. He was the same way, but the tone of his replies were wildly different than yours. He was usually very dismissive, and while not directly condescending he did leave you feeling that way. You on the other hand seem to have a outwardly dim tone, and I’ve noticed that you seem to be getting more and more irritated (angry is too strong a word). He too actually started a thread very similar to this one shortly before he spectacular ending (banned on the last day of guest-ship).
Now here’s the thing, I have you somewhere in between both these members. More and more you’re beginning to look like the latter, although I tend to try to reserve critical judgment. I have been guilty in the past of making ill-advised posts so I know what it feels like to be mistaken as a message board villain.

I say stay, become a member. But I would advise you to simply try to settle down. A couple people have already passed judgment, but I think this thread shows us that the world isn’t against you, there are still plenty who would welcome you to the fold. Just understand that not everyone will like you, or the things you may want to ask questions about. Damn it all I say.

To everyone who would like to see this guest go, I would ask you to give him a second chance if he decides to join. Ed Zotti himself has told us that this board isn’t in the best of shape, we need to find ways of getting new members if we hope to keep this place alive. And I’m not talking about the money, to hell with the $15. $15 won’t save this place! What will though is new and refreshing discussion. This board lives, breathes, and hopefully won’t die based on content.

We recently had another member whom I enjoy leave. He just left. He experienced what we all did when we first find this place and saw all this NEW cool stuff to talk about. “To be bluntly honest, I got here by accident (plane on a treadmill link from elsewhere!), and decided that I liked GD to discuss the bigger things in life. It turns out that my first impression of it was wildly wrong. GD is dead as it is.” I’ve seen GD, and while I will not say it’s dead it is certainly rather stale. The same faces, all the same views. You know the direction a thread will head based off the first couple replies, and you already know what will be said in a post based off the screen name.

Maybe** 2.5 inches ** is a bit crass, but at least he injected a little new discussion (not all of it based on “fat asses”) in a couple of our forums. So I’m being optimistic, I really hope he’s not a troll. I know his behavior doesn’t seem to be improving, but I’m just hoping.

Now the only question is, how long before Jim sends me a PM asking me the identification of my three mysterious examples. Even though he already knows who I’m referring to.

Doooooo IT!
