Most pants get a couple of wears. Depends on weather and activity though. (Jeans I wore to the movies = worn again. Jeans I ran around playing frisbee in during warm weather = laundry.) I wear t-shirts under all my shirts. Those get washed after one use. As do all my workout clothes, socks, and boxers.
I bike to work, so in the summer I do a lot more laundry.
Jeans, 2-3 wears. Dress pants, 2-3 wears unless they’re stretched out or wrinkled. Blouses–depends on hard it is to care for. More delicate things/things that don’t come out of the dryer in perfect shape/things that can’t go in the dryer get washed less often unless they don’t smell fresh. Sweaters–eh, whenver they don’t smell fresh anymore.
Weirdly, bras are the only thing I don’t wash every time after wearing. I’ll wear a bra twice before washing it because with boobs the size of mine, bras are damn expensive and don’t hold up all that well if you wash them after every use. Everything else gets washed after one wearing.
My younger bro has this weird phobia about putting socks back on after he’s worn them. Period. Even if it’s only been for 2 minutes. Needless to say, much fun childhood fun was had by sitting on him, taking his socks off and then forcing them back on.
For me, shirts, socks and underwear all are worn once and then washed. Jeans and work pants I usually wear twice, possibly three times. Lately, I’ve been washing a lot more, since I have my own washer and dryer now. It’s so nice not to have to lug things to the landromat.
Good lord, I can’t believe there are people wearing underwear for days on end. Here are the universal rules, which also happen to be mine:
Pants/Jeans: 2 wearings under most circumstances. Hang pants after the 1st wearing to air out and keep the crease.
Sweaters: Fluffed in the dryer after each wearing. Dry clean every 2-3 wearings.
Suits: Allow to air out and press after the 1st wearing, dry clean after the 2nd.
Outerwear: Dryclean wool and leather once per season. Hand wash and air dry water and windproof sportswear once per season.
All shirts, socks, underwear, and everything else: Wash after every wear.
I’ll wear a pair of jeans for three or four days - or until they get dirty.
Shirts that have been in direct contact with my skin are only worn once.
Like Surly Chick, I wear my bras for a few days before washing them.
I wear push-up bras. :o They don’t hold up in the wash very well, even one the delicate cycle.
Panties and socks get tossed in the hamper everyday.
One exception: I work with mice that don’t have an immune system. Whenever I’ve been around a rodent in a non-work situation, everything I’m wearing gets washed.
Have you tried putting sweaters/shirts in a dryel bag and throw it in the dryer? They may not be dry clean but sometimes I will put my sweaters in with a dryel sheet to wash them or try woolite in the sink and lay flat to dry.
I’m pretty sure I read every post, and I didn’t see that anyone admitted to wearing underwear for days on end. I define “underwear” as panties and briefs, items that come into direct contact with a crotch.
Socks and underwear I wash after every wearing.
Bras every 3 or 4 wearings? Mine are lacy, frilly, some padded, some just shaped, and washing every day would kill them!
With camisoles, Tshirts and sweaters, I rely on a smell test. If it picks up odors from a club or party, it gets washed right away, but otherwise I get 3 to 5 wearings.
Sweatshirts and the like I don’t wear without a shirt underneath, so that’s another smell test.
I wash work pants every 2 weeks or so. Shorts and jeans I wash when they’ve lost that snug fit. Which is always sooner than they should!
I rarely ever spill stuff or otherwise get dirty, so this is a pretty much my washage. I’m not bothered by wearing osmething multiple times but i have a tendency to throw all my clothes on the floor (the joys of living alone!) and you can only iron out those wrinkles so many times before it just needs to be washed.
I don’t know about you, but my boobs are not the sanitary equivalent of garden slugs, and thus my bras can be worn more than once if I don’t sweat or spill on them.
I’m probably just not used to boobs as clean as yours (and don’t bras run under the arms?) but I’ve noted a bit of sweat can collect beneath and betwixt the larger variety.
I’ve got large boobs, but don’t sweat easily. ::shrugs:: I also don’t live in an area that gets hot enough most of the year to worry. Of course, however, I don’t wear bras more than once if I got sweaty.
Definitely dude-ish, thanks muchly! I’ve managed to be one of the rather more anonymous people with 1k+ posts, unless you’re big into sports threads, but I’d hoped the name was masculine enough. Either way, thanks
Jeans go the longest. I will wear a pair of jeans for one week or even two in dire emergencies. (Dire emergencies defined as: me not feeling like doing laundry.) At this point it’s almost necessity. I’ve dropped from a size 16 to a size 12 (no wait! make that 10! My pants fell down today!) in six months, and I can currently only afford two pairs of jeans at a time.
Shirts can NEVER be reworn. NEVER!!! The only possible exception are nightshirts and even then there are limits. For some reason re-wearing tops feels the dirtiest to me.
Bras can go more than once… I’m a big girl, and generally can only afford 3-4 bras at a time. I wear elasticky ones that don’t sweat and there are always limits–anything that fails the “smell” test is out.
Underwear… I mean ew. Once.
I am completely irreverent about socks. I wear socks with abandon, often mismatched. If I have a full drawer of socks I will change them every day, but when I’m low on laundry I might skrimp 2-3 days to get to the weekend.
Skirts depend. I don’t wear nylons with my skirts, but shorts underneath and sandals on my feet. Generally once a skirt wrinkles it gets washed.
