*Shoes - I’ll wear for a couple months in the summer, longer in winter, between washes. Socks, Underwear, Pants/Jeans, Shirts - One day. Everything that touches my body gets washed after one use. Sweaters - Maybe once a season. I wear a shirt under the sweater, rarely wear sweaters, and don’t really know what to do with wool anyway (after I shrunk the last sweater I tried to wash) Jackets - Depends on the jacket. Some get washed 2-3 times a winter, some (wool again) only get cleaned when I know they’re dirty. Bedsheets - I don’t keep track. “When they need it” or “when that damn cat knocks over a glass of water again”.
Shoes - when they start to smell or I walk through mud or something
Socks - one day
Underwear - one day
Pants/Jeans - 2/3 days or when they start to smell or get dirty
Shirts/Sweaters - one day for shirts that actually touch me, 3/4 for sweaters I can put in the dryer. I don’t have room in my house at college to lay sweaters out to dry, so those have to wait until I go home for a weekend or a break (once a month or so).
Jackets - when they smell or get noticeably dirty
Bedsheets - not often enough, considering I have dust allergies - I try to go for once every two weeks or so (about how often I do laundry), but sometimes I forget.
My husband seems to change clothes two or three times a day.
I do three loads of laundry four times a week for the two of us. Everything gets washed everytime.
I’ve never washed my own shoes, his get washed once a month.
Shoes – (sneakers & crocs) when I look at them & think “eww.” Real shoes get wiped off and aired out between wearings
Socks - one wearing (and changing shoes requires clean socks)
Underwear - one wearing (changing clothes requires clean undies)
Pants/Jeans - one wearing. Two if I was unusually mess-free the first time.
Shirts - one wearing.
Sweaters - two wearings, unless I was unusually messy the first time. Dry-clean Only sweater – I have only one, because I’m messy, and almost never wear the damn thing even though it’s gorgeous, so maybe once a year.
Dress Jackets (aka Blazers or suit jackets) – when I have a coupon for the dry cleaner I like (every other month or so)
Outerwear – end of season.
Bedsheets - weekly at least. Depends on cat hork, air temp, surprise periods, cold & flu and allergy season, etc. Pillows, and comforter are cleaned quarterly. I’d have it done monthly, if I won the lottery.
Shoes: I try to go a month between shines for the ones I wear often.
Socks & underwear: wear once, then wash. Anybody who does otherwise, absent financial hardship or no access to a laundry, is unwell.
Shirts: depends on whether they get anythng on them, but no more than 3 wears between washings.
Bedsheets: once a week.
Knit sweaters, any sort of jackets: many variables, impossible to give a rule other than “when it needs it.”
Shoes? I’ve done it, but not enough to really mention.
Socks, undershirts and drawers after a single use.
Dress pants get one wearing, jeans can get 4 or 5 wears before they smell.
Jackets get pressed far more often than they would get washed. Once a season unless it gets something on it.
Bedsheets? Depends on how often I’ve been having sex on them.
Shoes - if they’re sneakers and get really stinky or immersed in water or something, then I’ll wash them, but that’s very rare
Socks - after one wearing
Underwear - underwear after one wearing, bras can have several wearings unless it’s wicked hot. Except for sports bras, these are handwashed/hung to dry - I’d guess I wash them every 2-3 wearings.
Pants/Jeans - probably every 2-3 weariungs
Shirts/Sweaters - Depends. Shirts probably after each wearing - occasional exceptions for fancy stuff that’s dry-clean only or the like. Sweaters - as needed, and that’s hard to define.
Jackets - as needed. That’s more often for denim jackets and the like, maybe once a season for the wool coat.
Bedsheets - once a week, especially for the pillowcases, but everything gets done then. It’s easier to wash it all at once and my face breaks out much less if it’s once a week.
Shoes: I don’t wash gym shoes; they tend to wear out before it becomes necessary. Nice shoes, of course, can’t be washed; shine is as-needed.
Socks: Daily. If I change clothes during the day, I may change socks depending on the circumstances. (e.g., changing from jeans with white socks to dress slacks with dressier socks)
Underwear: Daily. Changing pants doesn’t entail changing underwear, though taking a shower usually does.
Jeans: Two or three wearings, probably. For dress pants, it’s going to depend on when they need to be pressed more than when they need to be washed.
Shirts/Sweaters: T-shirts and polos or the like are single-wear items. Dress shirts are too, as much because they need to be pressed as because they’re dirty. (I do sweat fairly heavily under the arms, though, and even wearing a t-shirt under my dress shirts doesn’t keep it completely dry, so I’d probably wash them even if I could figure out how to not wrinkle them.) Sweaters are strictly on an as-needed basis, which can be a pretty long time if I’m good. If it occurs to me that it’s been a very long time, I’ll probably wash them even if they don’t seem to ‘need’ it.
Jackets: As needed, but rarely. My olive-drab field jacket hasn’t been washed in several years, I’m fairly sure.
Bedsheets: I try to do these once a week, but I’m not always diligent about it. It doesn’t help that I’ve only got one set of decent sheets–the other sheets are all pill-ey, so I don’t care to sleep on them. If I had more than one set of smooth, pill-free sheets, I’d probably wash them weekly.
Shoes- Wash shoes? I guess I don’t buy shoes that can be washed except for maybe my All Stars…but when they are icky I can just buy new ones
Socks- I wash socks when they are new before the first wear and after every wear. Re-wearing dirty socks - ick!
Underwear- I wash underwear when they are new before the first wear and after every wear. Again, wearing dirty underwear?
Pants/Jeans- This really depends. In the summer when it’s hotter than hell, pants get washed after every wear, unless I only have them on for a little bit and not being all sweaty. In the winter, most pants, jeans especially, get worn 2 - 3 times before being washed. It all just depends on what I have been doing. If I wore them to clean out the garage- washed after that wear.
Shirts/Sweaters- Most shirts get washed after every wear. With sweaters it really depends. For sweaters I can wash and dry- usually wash every time. Ones I have to lay flat to dry- which is a pain since I have a really small house- I will wear them a couple of times before I wash them.
Jackets- I wash washable zip-up sweatshirts every couple of weeks, nicer coats go for cleaning at the end of the season unless they really need it. I hate paying for dry cleaning.
Bedsheets- I try to change/launder bedsheets every week at the most every 2 weeks. I wash the duvet cover once a month.
Shoes- I wash my canvas tennis shoes whenever they begin to smell or look dingy
Socks- After each wear (except for the warm socks I wear to bed when its cold)
Underwear- After each wear
Pants/Jeans - Work pants, after each wear. Jeans will get worn 3 times before washing
Shirts/Sweaters - Unless they are ‘bedclothes’, after each wear
Jackets - Rarely
Bedsheets* - once a month
Shoes – Uh. Never? I don’t wear shoes that can be washed.
Socks – After one wearing
Underwear – After one wearing
Pants – after one wearing
Jeans – when they look or smell dirty or when I happen to have a load of blues to go in the wash, whichever comes first
Shirts – after one wearing
Sweaters (purchased) – after one wearing
Sweaters (made) – when they look or smell dirty
Jackets (suit) – after a dozen or so wearings, I get them dry-cleaned
Jackets (outerwear) – I’ll get them dry cleaned if they absolutely need it but I can’t remember the last time that was the case
Bedsheets* – when I notice they smell. Which is, I’m pretty sure, well after they actually start smelling.
Towels – about one week, however many showers that might entail, or until I take multiple showers in a single day and my towel from the morning is still wet in the afternoon and I have to get a new one.
(I added the last one to the list, because I’m curious about it. My ex-roommate used multiple towels and never more than once so he did absolutely masses of towels every week when we went to the laundromat.)
Shoes
I wash my Tevas in the shower probably weekly and throw them in the wash once in a while (every 1-2 months maybe). My Chucks get thrown in the washing machine about once a month, and I polish all my leather shoes monthly or after abuse.
Socks
One use.
Underwear
One use.
Pants/Jeans
Depends on how dirty they get. I often get 2 uses out of pants.
*
Shirts/Sweaters*
One use, generally.
Jackets
I wash my hoodies weekly; I can’t recall the last time I took my pea coat in to the cleaners, although I steamed it last month. I clean my leather coats with leather cleaner once in a while, but I wash the liner to my motorcycle jacket about once a month, twice for my husband’s (he rides much more than I do).
Bedsheets*
I change them weekly; the duvet cover monthly or as needed.
Towels/Robes
I wash them once a week; washcloths get one use.
