Do you wear a wrist watch?

DAMN!

I’m not sure about the status of posting links but if you search for the watch you can see it at Heritage Auctions.

I have a beautiful “skeleton” gold pocket watch that my husband bought me at the Greenwich Observatory in London. I wear it when I wear my tux.

I also have a replica of the first self-winding watch from the 1920s. There were only seven made of the original. I’d wear it more, but I don’t keep it wound.

This thread makes me want to again. My bosses at work wear those iWatch things. Seems a bit silly. Just how far is your cell phone away? I’ve got a nice analog that I might start wearing again.

I repair watches as a hobby. This ‘could’nt be repaired’ sounds as a challenge. If you want me to give it a try, get in touch.

I’m 62, and yes, I wear a wrist watch (Seiko, operating on natural movements). I’m very happy to be without cell phone for 7+ years (ever since I took early retirement).

58, male. Wear a Timex Ironman watch when cooking–especially grilling–as it’s the most convenient timer (and auto-repeats, so I can, say, check the steak every two minutes). Wear a Timex dress watch when traveling or dressing up because, well, I own it and that’s the only time I get to wear it. I work at home, so don’t go to an office. I also have a Fitbit Alta that I wear all the time, which can give me the time by turning my wrist, so that’s sort of a watch in the classic sense.

Just turned 57 last Friday, still wear a watch. Just far more convenient & quicker to take a glance at than pulling my cell phone out of my pocket, especially when I’m on a work break or lunch. Haven’t really paid attention to how many people much younger than me wear watches, but I still routinely get questions from those who don’t, “hey, man, what time is it?” and they’re not asking just to be funny but apparently they can’t be bothered to have their own watch or even a cell-phone.

49, female, and never. I would put one on for work daily, but unconsciously take it off sometime during the day. One class of 1st graders were sharp enough that they would see me glance at my naked wrist and as a group point and say “You put it over there!”
I destroyed enough watches by leaving them in a pocket and laundering them that I was delighted to adopt a 21st century pocket watch.

I wear one every day because i work in live theater and need to check the time constantly without the hassle of getting my phone out.

As far as the youth of today go, two of my daughters (now 18 and 20) got into watches a couple years ago and wear them fairly often. They each have a few watches to match with outfits, and the oldest just got an iWatch which she loves. Anyway my understanding is that there is a trend among teens these days to wear watches. (We live on the west coast.)

  1. I wear a smart watch/fitness tracker. Misfit Vapor II (I do water fitness and it’s waterproof). I can look at my wrist while I’m typing on the computer and see who is calling, texting, or using facebook messenger at me. It’s convenient. Pulling out my phone, turning it on, unlocking it and reading a message while I’m at a red light can get me a big fat hefty ticket. Glancing at my watch will not. Hands free, baby.

I use the timer function to remind me to get moving so I can get my chores done AND go to the pool on Saturdays. Yeah, I could set an alarm on my phone and then dig it out of my purse (eventually) to turn it off. But a subtle buzz on the wrist is better. Likewise for medicine reminders (I take four different meds 2x a day each; it gets complicated).

It’s a pedometer and a heart rate monitor. It also has a spanish to english translator app. yes, I use that.

And I also like being able to change the appearance of the watch on a daily basis just cause I feel like it.

I am 55 and I haven’t worn a watch on my wrist in decades. I never ever liked having something on my wrist. I hate banging it into things and having to worry about taking it off if it might get wet and I especially hate how my wrist would get all clammy underneath it. Even before I had a cell phone, I would get a cheap Casio and wear it on the front belt loop of my pants.

Now I use my smart phone which is currently an iPhone Xs. I’m not sure why some people thinks that there is all of this hassle involved. I don’t have to push any buttons or unlock the phone to see the time or the date. The lock screen shows the time and date and it’s motion sensitive. I just pull it out of my pocket and it’s right there. The only time that I wouldn’t use the phone is when I am driving and then I just look at the display on the car.

I only put on a watch when going out. We have so many clocks at home that I don’t need one on my wrist.

I looked at the link and now I want a Muller Crazy Hours in Red. Anyone want to trade for a kidney? I still need the car. Gorgeous, but holy crap are they pricey!

Mid-40’s, and I wear a watch to work. I work in a place that doesn’t allow cellphones, smart watches, or anything with Bluetooth or can be plugged into a USB port, but I still need to be on time for things so a watch is handy. Outside of work, I don’t normally wear a watch (only if I’m dressed up) and haven’t for years. Even before cellphones were ubiquitous, I didn’t like wearing watches and carried a pocket watch insteaad.

Same here, mine’s a Blue Angels edition with a metal band. I also have a Garmin Forerunner 935, though I only wear that while exercising and don’t really think of it as a watch. It’s more of a piece of sports equipment to me.

Early 60s. I wear a wristwatch. Have three of them – two Casios and a Swatch. The Casios even have alarm clocks. What more could you want? The Swatch is for semiformal occasions, like our anniversary meal last night.

The wife, late 50s, has several including a really nice old one handed down from my grandmother. The only family heirloom I ended up with.

So are watches unfortunately.

I always have a watch on when going out of the house. I have a Timex Ironman, an Invicta watch and a Technomarine. When I’m on a plane I wear the Timex so I can keep track of how many hours are left before we land.

50 years old and yes, I wear a watch. It’s a Casio A851. My dad gave me one when I was 13 and I wore it up through college before it broke. I knew of no place that could fix it and I just couldn’t get rid of it due to the sentimental value I had for it so I held onto it for about 20 years. Then I started searching on eBay and found a working one. That was about 5 years ago. I’ve been wearing it ever since.

I’ve had some others over the years, but they were all either too cheap and broke right away, or I simply wore out the band. The Casio A851 just works and stands up to everything I put it through.

My son got me this one for mother’s day: http://https://www.google.ca/search?q=swatch+ostrich+watch&client=safari&hl=en-ca&prmd=isnv&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwigjID76YjjAhXF-lQKHUUBApoQ_AUoAXoECAwQAg&biw=375&bih=635#imgrc=myzqhgppK2ZRpM
I wear it daily. I dig it - I had quit wearing watches for a while but I’m glad to be back to it.
