I actually went to the cosplay burlesque at 2010’s Otakon. After waiting in line for two hours, we discovered that their ‘stage’ was about a foot off the ground, in a ballroom sized seating area. So if you wearn’t in the front row, you couldn’t see anything. And I don’t mean ‘the good parts,’ I was lucky to see tip of a flipping ponytail. They had a big screen set up, but didn’t use it, because that would make sense.
The comedy guys were horrible. Literally, so bad it actually inspired horror. (and by ‘literally,’ I mean ‘figuratively’) Offending a crowd at an anime convention is hard to do, but they managed it.
We left after about 20 minutes, without observing a single chuckle and/or absurd undergarment.
But that was a failure of planning. Also comedy. The core idea is sound, and I’m not surprised it’s shown up at other cons. Burlesque has gotten more popular over the past few years, and if you cut out the old-school geeks, both demographics are pretty similar. The more tolerable breeds of hipster, artsy and theater types, geeky chicks, exhibitionists, people who like fun, etc. And the old school geeks will come anyway, because, ya know, boobies. And boobies wrapped in a Belldandy costume are even better than normal boobies.

You really think so? She’s tall, athletic, has fantastic legs, a nice bust and a nicer smile. The Faye-haircut and stage makeup weren’t flattering, but I assume those are only an issue when actively burlesquing.
Faye was probably a poor choice given her body type. That’s a skinny-girl outfit. The fringed underwear wasn’t a great decision, either. And where were the garters? Garters are a critical part of both the burlesque and Faye traditions!
