We’re taking our daughter to the showing in Cary. She wants to show off her radical Dalek costume. I’m excited because we haven’t had a chance to see it yet!
Well, we have had a chance to see it, but we’ve been trying to avoid any information.
Me and the missus our daughter will be going as well. 3D and everything.
I am, yay! Missed the live showing because I was at Midwest FurFest in Chicago (where I rather more than half-expected a showing, as there is, unsurprisingly, plenty of overlap between furs and Whovians–but I expect there’d be “public performance” licensing issues), but this makes up for being a few days behind on the discussions. Hoping to see lots of costumes and whatnot.
We’re going! The big theater was all sold out but the smaller one still had seats.
I was going to but my husband (who is completely up to date, and who has seen it) talked me out of it. I’m just now catching up with the New Who. I’m watching them chronologically and am only just a few episodes into Tennant’s Doctor. I have a LONG way to go, and he said I’d be lost and spoiled. I guess I’ll see it in a few months.
It was a lot of fun! Lots of people dressed up, lots of laughs and clapping, and when Tennant said, “I don’t want to go,” at least 80% of the females in the audience uttered loud "Aww"s.
No cosplay that I saw at my showing, but still great fun. I was a bit suprised how many folks seemed to be staying for the “making-of featurette” or whatever it was, but then again, most of them had probably had dinner, unlike YT.
I went. There were 3 simultaneous showings going on. I was surprised by how packed it was – we couldn’t go to our first choice show as it was sold out over a week ago when we bought tickets. Apparently there are more Who fans in Des Moines than I anticipated. And a ton of them were (well-behaved!) teenagers.
Quite a few costumes, absolutely tons of meme and reference shirts as well as Tom Baker scarves, a fez or two, and the crowd was absolutely loving every bit of the show. I’ll have to re-watch it as the jokes went over so well that laughter tended to obscure some of the lines.
It’s quite a lot of fun to see something like this with a group of fans who really appreciate it. I was also pleasantly surprised, as a lot of the specials have let me down in the past, but both my skeptical friend and I both really enjoyed it. The 3-D worked pretty well too, and didn’t feel forced.
All in all, well worth the ticket price, I thought.
I felt like a complete dope for not wearing my Fourth Doctor scarf–it didn’t even cross my mind when I left the house. I’m not sure how many shows they had going–at least two–but I know that the parking lot was packed*, and when I was trying to pick up my internet tix from a recalcitrant terminal, the 7:30 was shown as sold out.
- Another reason I didn’t stick around for the credits, etc. It would’ve been an absolut nightmare getting out of there.
So then you missed the bit after the credits? Too bad. I have only watched a few episodes (I went to keep the fanboy husband happy) but I kept up just fine. It was really good.
I’m not caught up with it current (haven’t made it through season six of the new Who), but I went and didn’t have any problem following it. Loved it, BTW.
We went! I had a van full of kids and I was the only adult. Four were teens. We had a great time and loved seeing all the cosplay and reference shirts. We saw quite a few fez, lots and lots of striped scarves, multiple teen boys in suits and bow ties, and three TARDIS dresses (one with a working light hat!) The theater was packed. They opened there largest rooms for this and ended up with one 3D and three 2D screens going. Apparently there are a ton of Whovians in our area.
My kids wore Dr. Who shirts I made for them. The younger boy was very sad that no one said a word about his Cyberman T. The youngest girl dressed as Rose Tyler and had a fantastic time getting people to guess who she was and meeting the guys dressed as David Tennant. (“I’m Rose Tyler!” cracked me up.)
BTW, I’m not all caught up, and I followed the story just fine. I have seen a Matt Smith series. , though if that makes a difference.
