DOCTOR WHO starring PETER CAPALDI and ....PEARL MACKIE

The Doctor officially has a new companion … actress Pearl Mackie joins Peter Capaldi as “Bill.”

Yes, “Bill.”

The story is here, complete with an introductory video of Capaldi and Mackie in character, to get a little taste of what she’s like.

My first reaction was that “It’s Sharon” from the Doctor Who magazine comic strip. They are certainly going in a new direction, but at least she’s not another willowy, nubile, white-bread, just-barely-twenty-something bimbette (sorry Jenna, Karen and Billie, but if the stereotype fits…) This could be interesting.

I’m looking forward to seeing the fan-boys whining about that, and how SJWs have got their way with the casting

I thought the dialogue was standard bolshie-young-female-companion writing that could have been spoken by any of the three above (or even Donna), and it didn’t really give me an idea of who she was or how their relationship will be beyond young woman and grumpy old man.

When I first saw her, I thought for a split second she was the stroppy schoolgirl (Courtney?) from Coal Hill, but I think I read she’s in the spin-off “Class” instead.

I look forward to seeing how things work out anyway - I’m pleased at the non-white casting, but otherwise she seems a standard cookie-cutter companion from the 2 minutes I’ve seen. Hope I’m wrong

Too bad all we’re getting for the next year and a half or so is a Christmas special. :frowning:

I would have been happy with a log in a wig as the next companion; I am SO BURNT OUT on Clara.

Concidering that they were thinking of casting that chick from East Enders, the SJW’s most certainly did not get their way.

Sorry , but I like that type.

Not that I won’t watch who, obviously. But I hope she is only around for one season, before the show returns to form.

So another Martha Jones?

In the worlds of the immortal Sarah Jane Smith:
“You can tell you’re getting older, your assistants are getting younger.”

See?

There was a campaign for that … we had hopes. But it looks like Ms. Mackie got the nod.

She’s sarcastic and questioning everything like Donna, but still a young female 20-something. She may or may not be from a different time period, though, if 2017 is the future. Well, it’s the future for all of us right now, but not when the show returns.

I dunno. There’s nothing about her that strikes me as new or interesting. I’m getting bored by the show now, and she’s not going to be what brings me back.

Cite?

yeah , give me a few moments to track it down on facebook, it should have at least the original link.

I figured the 2017 being the future bit was because they had done something like traveled to the past, and they needed to get back to the present day (for when the episode airs).

Well, that was easy.
