Doctor Who: The End of Time - SPOILERS!

Comic-Con bootleg
“Waters of Mars” next time trailer
David Tennant intro to preview clip
Nov. 21 preview clip

I was a bit meh about this Master, it would be nice to see him redeem himself and for the next special to be actually special (I say that having not yet caught Waters of Mars mind you.)

You can do a lot better than the End of Time bootleg from Comic-con now - it’s available in HD. After all, it did air with Water of Mars.

Oh yeah, Simm’s Master is awesome.

P. S. Don’t watch this if you don’t want to spoil Tennant’s bow-out as Doctor. snerk snerk

That was the second link in the OP – and the bootleg has some content that does not appear in the broadcast version.

Blogtor Who has some John Simm pix and interview clips. He says this time the “Master is unleashed” - 'cause he was so restrained the first time!

I didn’t want to start yet another thread about “Who” and since this the topic here seems to be about upcoming changes in the series, let me just throw in a slight hijack and ask what people think about the new logo for the next full series?

Looks quite retro to me, very much in the style of the original series logos.

I don’t get too worked up over logos, but I never really cared for the current one – a little too self-consciously steam-punk, I thought. I kind of like the call-back to the stacked logos of yore but with a stylish, updated font. I suppose this means they’ll be redoing or replacing the “time tunnels” credit sequence. The “DW” in the shape of a Tardis is one of those “I can’t believe they haven’t done this before” things.

Radio Times has a bit of new stuff. Wilf gets to go inside the Tardis and has to face some “serious reckoning,” but Russell T. Davies promises it’s not all dark: David Tennant and June Whitfield have a funny scene together.

To no one’s surprise, the two parts are officially scheduled for Christmas and New Year’s.

And for something exceedingly trivial, apparently the BBC will be airing several Doctor Who/Holiday-themed station identifications this year. They did something similar with Wallace & Gromit last year.

Ladies and gentlemen, Christmas is canceled: video link.

Here’s the first one. Hmm, he has a box that can hold tons inside while looking very small, can travel anywhere in time and space in an instant and is over 900 years old? The Doctor is the real Santa Claus!
BBC America have announced that “The End of Time Part I” will be aired on Dec 26 and “The End of Time Part II” on Jan 2!! I just hope they don’t cut them down like the hack job they did on “Journey’s End.”

Are they going to return to a more regular schedule with the next Doctor? This only having a handful of “specials” every year is for the birds. Can’t they find a talent actor who would enjoy the steady work?

I would assume so. I didn’t see the 4th season when it was first aired on TV (I saw it on DVD, and other ways) so I’m not sure how they did it then, but I think it was shown in the US on a regular schedule, just a bit after it would air in the UK.

I might be wrong on this, but I’m pretty sure I read somewhere that the plan of having only the 5 specials in 2009 (from Christmas 2008 til New Years 2010) was set from quite a ways back, it wasn’t due to David Tennant wanting time off. But since he *did *have less time filming, he was able to fill that empty time with both Love’s Labor’s Lost & *Hamlet *on stage, and various film cameos.

Hmm. I *thought *someone would comment on the fact that the Master appears to be wearing a dog collar.

Oh, well, I won’t let the apparent lack of interest stop me from linking to a couple of links featuring Bernard Cribbins (Wilf, a.k.a. Granddad):

Some still photos (which have been out for a while):

Something that has nothing directly to do with the specials but I think it’s funny:

His gf wears a matching one.

Only 13 more days. I always look forward to the Doctor Who Christmas specials. They’ve had some great ones.

I’m not sure why Davies choose the Ood as the great prophets that know the Doctor’s fate. I wasn’t that impressed with them in S4. They were slaves walking around with a snow globe in their hand. :dubious: Now, they know all the secrets.

Well, I think they’re one of the more iconic-ish designs they’ve come up with for new Who, and they have the “hive mind” thing going for them.

And, hey, they’re creepy. Everybody loves psychic, creepy brain monsters.

It could have been worse. (Parallel-Earth Cybermen? The Slitheen?)

Most of it has been seen, but there’s some new dialogue.

Claire Bloom plays "possibly his mother, possibly not. Someone who appears and basically gives him the bad news. A seer, a prophetess. Also she is somehow there as a protectress. But that’s more in what I tried to do than in the script. The scripts are very, very complicated.”

A showdown: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PwRHcggM3sY&feature=related (that’s NOT David Tennant gasping at the end; it’s a talk-show host).

Mrs. Master is back, but she’s not saying much: Q&A: The Master's wife, Lucy Saxon!

Some of those clips are great.

It looks to me like the Master’s new body is robotic with some kind of projection to make him appear human. It reminds me of Scream of the Shalka, where Derek Jacobi played the Master with a robotic body IIRC.

Can’t wait for Christmas, the Doctot Who specials make it all worthwhile.

I am very curious about the image of the (naked?) man with the whisps whirling around him… looks vaguely like a regeneration, although they seem to have pretty much standardized that imagery with the “golden” light streams coming from the regeneration… Still, very interesting.

That’s the Master. Yes, he’s going to be naked, then he’s going to be wearing a dog collar, and somewhere in between he’s going to look like this: Brand New Images From Doctor Who: The End Of Time - Filmshaft

The last time we saw him he was reduced to ashes, so it won’t be a standard regeneration. Word is that the manner in which he is brought back is “absolutely preposterous,” which, given that we’re talking about Doctor Who, is really saying something.

POTUS?

Here are a couple video bits, but nobody’s giving away much more than we already know at this point.

Surprise: Russell T. Davies says it’s going to be good! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=02jDI0LLUhw

Some familiar clips and lackluster reporting, but it does contain one previously unheard line of dialogue in the middle. There is also a brief shot of Matt Smith and Billie Piper, but it’s not from Doctor Who. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-esgUOi815k

David Tennant finds cake overwhelming: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9nF724tW8mI

I’m still thinking about this episode. Part 1 raises more questions than answers. The Master is more than just crazy. That dude is way, way over the top psycho. I’m not sure how The Doctor can reverse the damage. The entire human race has become the master race.

Donna getting here memory back. I didn’t see that coming. How long before she burns up?

I like seeing the grandfather taking a larger role. He even rode in the Tardis.

I can’t wait for the second part. The return of the Time Lords!!! Wow! Are they back to help? Or are they joining the master?
