Doctor Who: The End of Time - SPOILERS!

I like it, but I wish they’d kept the old one for some continuity between Doctors.

-Joe

TWDuke, Russell Tovey’s character from Voyage of the Damned, Midshipman Frame, is rumored to be coming back as a member of the Shadow Proclamation.

Did anyone else think the Master’s cannibalism was a bit too Gollum?

I can just imagine that happening, too. “Russell, I have a request to help me ease back into the kind of Doctor Who stories I want to tell. I need you to bring Gallifrey and the Time Lords back.”

I’m trying to remember…any reason to believe he survived? I can’t remember what happened to him, but I thought he never made it off the bridge.

-Joe

Yes, Frame is standing and walking and talking and looking OK by the end of “Voyage.” (My viewing partner said is was the quickest spontaneous recovery from a gut shot that she’s ever seen. I tried to explain Alonso’s not from our planet and has a different internal physiology, but she wasn’t buying it.)

I think Russell Davies pays the bills as a screenwriter but would rather be writing slash full time.

I kid, I kid. The Doctor just wants a mate. A mate.
John Simms approach to playing the Master has almost made me forget his character on Life on Mars. I loved that show too. It’s hard to believe the same actor plays such totally different roles. Simms doesn’t even look much like Sam Tyler anymore.

Well, not just that, but I’d imagine that any civilization that can master FTL travel can probably patch up a bullet wound pretty quickly.

-Joe

True, although there was no indication that he received treatment. It looked more like spontaneous remission.

I guess this is the last spoiler – the Master is mean to Gramps: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FLvTG1_oPGk

Conclusion to the story is on in a couple of hours - it’s not often I get to feel smug about being in the UK vs the US when it comes to entertainment schedules.

I hate you. (But I mean that in a good way.)

I’m going to try to avoid further spoilers until I can watch the episode. I’m dying (heh) to see it how ends. I think it’s safe to assume the Doctor regenerates, but what (and who) triggers it is still, against all odds, a mystery. The Master would be the obvious choice, but sometimes the obvious choice is too obvious. Signs seem to be pointing toward Gramps, what with the pointed reference to his never having killed a man, and now he’s carrying a loaded revolver. But I’m guessing this is a red herring. Could be Lord Spittleton or another Time Lord, but seeing how they haven’t even been properly introduced yet, that would be kind of anticlimactic.

Idle speculation, boxed mostly to save screen space:
Could it be Donna? The awful irony of “the most loyal companion” being the one who pulls the trigger might appeal to Davies. And it would explain why Catherine Tate bothered to come back, as her most important line so far has been “Oh, my head!” She’s confused, scared, and doesn’t remember who the Doctor is. Maybe there will be some kind of twist in which someone has to kill the Doctor in order to save him, Wilf can’t bring himself to do it, and Donna one last time becomes “the most important woman in all of creation.”

I’m also eager to learn how (or if) all the previously released spoilers that didn’t pay off in part 1 pan out in part 2. Could it be that the Master gains the Tardis and the Doctor pursues him through the past using Captain Jack’s teleport thingie?

Here are a few things to look out for, possibly roughly in order of appearance

My son thought it would be a gas of Dalton was forced to morph into…Pierce Brosnan.

Interesting episode. B minus for the plot, A plus for the emotion.

Yeah, I was kind of annoyed with the heavy used of magic reset buttons but they managed to hit all the right character beats for everyone and that forgives a lot of sins. Yeah, obviously things were going to get undone but the way they resolved most of the cliffhangers was really lazy…

Odd episode and ending. I’m not sure about them dragging out the doctors regeneration. Yeah, it was nice seeing all the old characters one more time. It seemed kind of out of step for the series.

The doctor gets injured and he regenerates. That’s the way it works. He doesn’t get to say goodbye.

I did like the showdown with the Timelords. It was great seeing the Master step up and take them out.

I will miss David Tennant. He did a great job.

That new guy is freakish looking.

Has the Doctor always wanted to be ginger or something?

What’s the deal with Captain Jack and Alonso? Glad to see both of those characters.

I like Dalton, but the whole Time Lords thing was kinda meh.

Who was the woman in white? Mommy?

Longest regeneration ever. I’m really sad about Tennant leaving, but I was yelling Get on with it already!

I also enjoyed the Timelords/Master blowup. All in all, pretty good fun.

I’m going to vote for Romana. I hope they explain her one of these days.

I think he was relieved not to be ginger. Strange Brits.

I think the woman was Susan.

But it was deliberately left open to make us wonder.

That’s Davies’ need to have a “gay people are okay too!” moment in every episode.

It’s an in-joke. Rose’s (Billie Piper’s) real-life ex is Chris Evans who is ginger-haired.
