I loved that, plus her calling him on not having searched the files (that bit had me squealing that I want to use my HR powers for good instead of evil, too).
I have to admit, I’m loving Donna, and I really didn’t want to as I don’t like Catherine Tate. But it’s so refreshing to have a companion who’s not in love with the doctor.
Though I thought it was extremely out-of-character for her not to smash the car window at the end. She has more common sense than that.
It seems that what happens is that Russell The Davies, as Lead Writer, gives the freelance writers the essential story points their episode has to include (in this case it was probably something like “Modern-day Earth, Martha, UNIT, Sonatarans, Donna’s family”) and then the script goes through various drafts, with input from the Script Editor, RTD and the other producers. I’m sure there’s a certain amount of brainstorming goes on somewhere along the line.
I don’t think the UN had a problem with a fictional organisation on an obviously fictional TV programme, but they were a bit put out by the UNIT website the BBC set up.
They did a number of these sites for the first season of nu-Who, all quite cleverly done in a way to make them look like either fan sites or very old corporate-type sites. I remember quite a detailed discussion about this on DigitalSpy around the time ofthe first season relating to their relevance to ‘Bad Wolf’.
The BBC have done a ton of fake websites in support of New Who: Cybus Corporation, Torchwood Headquarters, Martha’s blog, the lunch menus from School Reunion…
I’ve not looked at the site, but Bonnybridge has a minor reputation as somewhere to spot UFOs wiki on Bonnybridge
And UNIT isn’t the first organisation to change it’s name to avoid annoying the UN; The Man From U.N.C.L.E. had the same problem, iirc. They quickly became ‘The United Network Command for Law and Enforcement’…
All the ATmos equipped cars had their “deadlock seal” activated by the Sontarian commander, making it impervious to sonic do-hickies and (presumably) rocks and tire irons.
Classic stuff. I liked the old-skool feel with the nu-skool spin, like Donna standing up to UNIT for their bully-boy tactics - she’s really starting to grow on me.
