"Doctoring Up" Store Bought Food

Circa 1990, there was a television commercial for a breakfast cereal or something. An announcer-voiced guy was like “Admit it, you doctored it up!” to the lady on the screen, and eventually she was like “Okay, okay, I doctored it up!”

And I found it so strange because I’d never heard that phrase before in my life, and also it seemed weirdly antagonistic, although maybe it wouldn’t have if I hadn’t had to guess from contaxt what they meant.

He wasn’t because I’ve never liked it, either, and you can’t imagine the reactions I’ve gotten from people when I’ve verbalized that.

I hate it, too, but my sister used to love it. Yuck.

Yes, I do this to Totino’s cheese or supreme pizzas depending on mood. I most often add red onions and sometimes extra cheese, but sometimes mushrooms or olives or basil or even mango or pineapple.
