Doctors - you go in healthy, you come back ill.

SIGH

I have 6 masters courses this term. That’s 2 more than a regular full-time course load. This is gruelling, but good. Yay.

I had an appointment to go see the doctor on Friday to get him to check up on my ruptured ear drum and drain my ear. I was feeling well, albeit just a little tired. I figured my course load was responsible.

I sit patiently in the waiting room. The nurse calls me in, and does her usual song and dance - takes pressure, and temperature. “Hm,” she says, “You’re running a fever…”

ex-kee-ooze me? “Fever?” I ask… “Yep, and you’re really simmering along.”

She walks out. In comes the doctor. Looks at my ear, it seems to be doing just fine. I cough. He asks, “How long you had that dry cough?” “Errr… a few weeks… I’m kinda overworked. I figured I was coming down with something…” “How long have you been coming down with something,” asks the doc.

Oh shit… at least a good 5 weeks - been tired, overworked and all… I look up sheepishly, “A while…” He pokes and prods… I wince in pain when he pokes my left side, right under my ribcage. He grins. Sends me to do blood tests and ultrasound…

Turns out I have mono. Didn’t even smooch anyone. Didn’t even share a straw with anyone. sigh:wink: Ah well… my spleen is 3 times its normal size, so I can’t go skiing… :frowning:

My grandad is right - you go see the doctor thinking you’re healthy, and you come back with some disease…

SIGH.

Had to share - phooey.

Poor baby! Just try and take it easy, get more rest, drink more fluids, and most definitely avoid any activities that may result in a blow to the abdomen. You may want to cut back your class schedule, at least for the next month or two, because the best prescription for mono is rest. The more you try to do, the longer it will take for you to recover. In the meantime, hang in there.

Mono was definitely one of the worst experiences of my life, and I’ve given birth four times. My doctor told me that only 10% of the population can get it, and out of the ones that get it, only 10% of the people get it as bad as I did. I spent a week in the hospital, not able to swallow anything.

I feel for ya.

Thanks guys.

It ain’t fun indeed, but…

:::: singing :::::: I will surviiiiive…

Ugh. I wish I could sleep, though… but with all thoses courses on the line, I can’t afford to.

lolagranola: That sounds horrible… my throat is fine now, but my spleen is rather tender. Liver function is down. I feel like I’ve been run over by a train carrying an elephant and its 4 siblings to the nearest zoo.

Oh, and I have just run out of aspirin.

Whiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine
