I'm getting mono for christmas

So, my new boyfriend just found out he’s got mono. He started feeling bad about a week and a half ago, but didn’t actually get diagnosed till yesterday. As we’ve been dating for…oh, about a week and a half now…well, I’ve been pretty thoroughly infected.

The same thing happened to my mom when she met Dad. He didn’t realize he had mono, passed it to her, and then found out why he had that fever… The funny part is that Dad and my new boyfriend have the same name. Although, I suppose it’ll be funnier if we actually end up married, etc.
Pointless, yes… I just felt like sharing.

Been there and done that. I once got Mono for Christmas back when I was in college. It hit me so hard I had to make a snap decision to cancel my winter classes so I could recover properly. I was off from work for 2 months because of it. I would get up in the morning and feel about 75% ok. By 10:00 AM, I was exhausted and could hardly stand. I had it so bad my dad actually thought I was going to die. Taking a semester off was the best thing I could have done and since I was living at home, it was easy to take work off as well. Of course recovery will vary from person to person, but get plenty of rest and don’t push yourself. I hope you get through this quickly.

Has the doctor tested you and confirmed you have mono? I ask, because my husband got mono from a fast food place which had an infected worker coughing everywhere. (Yeah, we should have left.) I ate there too, didn’t get sick. I didn’t end up with mono at all, even after kissing etc. while he was contagious. If you haven’t been tested, go get tested to be sure.

When Mrs. Prefect and I were dating she contracted mono and I never got it. So you may be getting something else in your stocking.

I was kissing the heck out of my then girlfriend and now wife when I got mono one year near thanksgiving. though we didn’t excange all types of bodily fluids at that point, we shared a lot of saliva, and she never came down with it, either.

This stuff has been helpful to hear. After reading Dragwyr’s post, I looked almost exactly like this:

I’m hopeful about not actually getting mono now, but I’ll still go get tested like Zabali_Clawbane suggested.

And ya know, I don’t get sick much so maybe I’ve got a decently strong immune system. Heck, I’ve got ancestors that survived the plague, so mono should be a piece of cake.

Try not to fall asleep on the toilet…or in the shower. :stuck_out_tongue: Been there, done that.

I missed 1/2 my junior year of HS with mono. I had a tutor and a nurse to change my IVs. Get sheets ready now. Buy new ones if you have to. You will not be able to make the bed, much less do laundry.
