Those dirty grubs have returned after I thought I had got rid of them. I am unwilling to spray chemicals. I have heard of a nematode treatment. Does it work? Where do I get them and when do I use them?
Dunno if they work (what kind of grubs are we talking about?) but you’ve got them in your computer!
IME, yes they work. Also take care of ants and fleas. Visit your local organic nursery.
It depends on what nematode treatment you use and what type of “white grub” you are referring to. Molasses is one of the most common nematode treatments and certainly won’t have any effect in insects. Other nematicides are also fairly specific wjiel some are just generic anticholinesterases that will kill any animal.
If the white grubs you’re talking about are Japanese beetle larvae, here’s a pretty good USDA link on controlling Japanese beetles. It talks about nematodes, Bacillus thuringiensis, milky spore disease, and other biological (and chemical) controls.
FWIW, if you have neighbors close by, and they don’t control their Japanese beetles, it’ll be an uphill battle for you.
You need to know what grub you have and get the right nematodes for it, and it may take two years to do, but yes, I have had it work well.
We’re not talking about killing nematodes and having that kill grubs. We’re talking about using nematodes to kill grubs.
Ahh, the question was unclear.
In that case, no idea.
Depends on the kind of nematode, and it depends on the kind of grub – but, yes, in general. This is a good nontoxic product.
This the right beast. Thanks for the great link!
How do the nematodes affect earthworms? Seems as though they are pretty much a “salt the earth” solution.
I’m a fan of milky-spore. Worked great to remove the grubs that the moles were eating on my lawn. One application, and that’s it for 20 or so years (or at least the 5 since I’ve done it)
