Does a product exist for securly transporting removable laptop drives?

Stupid hamsters. Here’s my OP:

I have a Gateway laptop with drive bays, i.e. two ‘ports’ where I can insert a floppy drive, cd/dvd-rom drive, 2nd battery pack, etc. I just replaced my floppy drive because the original became damaged while I was transporting it while outside the laptop (not in the drive bay). The floppy drive has a yellow sticker on the top that says “Warning: Don’t press this area.” Evidently it got pressed.

What I want is some sort of hard plastic case that I can put these removable drives in, so I can transport them without breaking them. The dimensions are about 5.25 x 5.75 x 0.625 (all in inches). Does anything like this exist? Gateway is no help.

I don’t know of your specific need but I have made my won protective cases for objects in different ways. A tupperware and some foam is a good start. And much cheaper than anything especifically designed for that purpose.

Ah, tupperware. Now there is a good idea. Thanks, sailor.

Tupperware, is there anything it can’t do?

Does anyone have any ideas for something that may be stronger than tupperware? I’m worried about forces squeezing the top and bottom, as this is what disabled my first floppy drive.

If you have a thick enough foam it should be enough because even if the top gives a bit the foam will still absob it. If you want more rigidity you can add a layer of cardboard, then foam. Or just find a suitably sized cardboard box and cut some foam to fit. I have made all sorts of protective carrying cases with such systems. My cheap sextant goes in a tupperware which is about 12" on the side and yet the sextant is well protected because the foam would absorb any compression. The foam is cut with a utility knife to fit the shape of the object. An added bonus is that the tupperware will protect from liquids or humidity. You really do not need more.
