Does Anybody Live In Elida, NM?

I was looking through some old photos…and found one that I snapped of a decrepit little town in southeastern New Mexico. We were driving from Carlsbad, NM, to Amarillo, TX…and we went through a dot on the map…the town? was called Elida. It seemed to be just a sign on the road, a run-down closed general store, and one or two decrepit oldhouses.
Any New Mexico dopers know anything about Elida…is it a ghost town?

It appears in Microsoft’s Streets and Trips, and appears to consist of about 10 blocks by 7 blocks. I’ve got to think that it’s more than a ghost town, or it wouldn’t show up on a travel map with that kind of detail.

Ah, here you go! Population, about 200.

BTW, from the 1990 census to the 2000 census, the population dropped from 201 to 185, so it ain’t exactly a boom town!

Maybe there were more people before the Census Bureau elided them?

If you need more info, their school is 82% white, 16% Hispanic, and 2% African American. 'Course, they gots 57 students, 7-12.

Awful mean desciption. AFAIK there’s been a Allsups (regional convenience store) there for ever. Some small businesses on and off. Not too mention a Public School. And quite a few houses. I have some relatives in the cemetary their. And I’ve a picture of my grandad next to the Elida school bus in a black cowboy hat, boots, and jeans from just before he left for the army in WWII.
