Does anybody WANT a Director's Cut of Star Trek V?

I’ve been enjoying the director’s cuts of the first four Star Trek movies as they’ve been released (last night I watched Star Trek IV with the commentary track featuring Leonard Nimoy and William Shatner). I understand that William Shatner, who directed Star Trek V, lobbied hard to have a director’s cut version of that movie released, but was turned down. Supposedly, he not only wanted to add commentary and behind-the-scenes interviews and documentaries, he also wanted money to reshoot the ending the way he originally wanted to shoot it.

Personally, I don’t think any amount of reshooting the ending will improve the movie, but I will admit I’d be curious to hear a commentary track and find out what was going through Bill’s mind when he made the film.

Anybody else want to see a director’s cut of this movie, or should the original master of the film be locked away in a vault somewhere and be allowed to die a natural death?

the new version couldn’t be that much worse, even if ALF shows up. I say give him money, it will be better than some Enterprise episodes.

No such movie as Star Trek V was ever made, so why waste time and money on a nonexistent “director’s cut”?

Or, give him the money on the condition that he not do it…

Yes. After all, ST: V was about a hundred times better than The Motion Picture and it got a complete overhaul before being released on DVD.

I don’t want any copy of Star Trek V, diretor’s cut or no director’s cut.

I’m tempted to agree with Aesiron, but then if I got one I’d actually have to watch it, so I’d have to say no.

The only good thing about STV is the first and only appearance ever of a Federation toilet. Pretty appropriate, if you think about it.

Commentary on this movie would certainly be an opportunity to get an answer to the question that has been plaguing us all these years–

“What on earth were they THINKING when they made this piece of offal?”

Still, I don’t think I could bring myself to watch it.

What does God need with a director’s cut?

ahem

There is no Star Trek V

But, I may get it and rerecord Bill’s musings to a heavy base beat and market it as Star Trek cRap

Director’s voiceover: Ohhhh Goddddd, what was I thinking! This is worst then my singing career. Just pretend this is just a bad Saturday Night Live Skit! Hey, have you heard about Priceline?

That T.J. Hooker, that was a damn fine show, wasn’t it. [/shatner]

That being said, I would rather sit through the Season 1 DVD of T.J. Hooker then the SE version (or any version) of ST:5.

Although I am not bitter at all about paying full pop to see this at the theater, nope not at all.

Actually, a Shatner commentary on this might be amusing. The man does have a sense of humor about himself- his commentary on ‘Incubus’ is highly entertaining.

I shudder to think what sort of scenes Shatner deemed not worthy enough to include in what we DID see. After “Row, Row, Row Your Boat” did they start again with rounds of “Mary Had a Little Lamb”?

The only worthwhile director’s cut of Star Trek V would be about 5 seconds long. Dear GOD, what a bad movie.

If anything, I hope they include Jabootu’s movie review, which is classic.

Top 5 changes to the Star Trek V director’s cut:
[ol][li]Sybok is actually Spock’s father, Spock has a twin sister who is also gifted in “the force”[/li][li]Kirk keeps Klingons at bay by singing “Mr. Tambourine Man”[/li][li]Dr. McCoy’s father isn’t really dead – shows up at end of movie to save the day[/li][li]Actually a Star Trek/Tekwar/Rescue 911 crossover[/li][li]“God” is revealed to be William Shatner[/li][/ol]

The only thing I could think when I saw this thread is “Yeah, right, I would sit through that execrable thing again voluntarily.” Then again, I somehow missed IV completely, I’m going to have to get out there and rent it.

That’s not true at all, but is a common misconception because of what happened to it. For some reason, the studio didn’t release it in order, and didn’t put Star Trek in the title, perferring instead to call it Galaxy Quest.

You want Shatner’s commentary? Read Star Trek Movie Memiors. I actually felt bad for Shatner, because the entire ending of the movie was scrapped literaly on the day they were to film it, and they completely ad-libed the ending we did see. It’s a pretty bad movie, sure, but I’m not sure Nimoy could have done better under those conditions. Plus, Paramount kept making him make major changes to the script during the filming of earlier scenes. It was doomed from the start, and not just because Shatner directed it.

Nah, Galaxy Quest is actually a funny and heartwarming movie.

STV is just crap.
