Does Anyody Know How to Remove Headrests on 2001 Saturn ION?

I am trying to put seatcovers on the front seats-but I can’t figure out how to remove the headrests! On my VUE, you hold the clip open, and they just pull out. On the ION, they won’t budge! Help-anybody know the trick?

I don’t know for sure but I’ve seen this on several other models of cars. Take something flat and flexible. Think a hacksaw blade but thinner, but with no teeth, and slide it down the back of the post of the headrest. This is for the kind of headrests that have a single flat post that support the actual headrest. Also, it they have two round posts that hold them up feel against the back of the seat, through the material, where the bottom of the posts would be in the seat itself. This is for the kind of headrests that use 2 rounds posts. Your feeling for where the posts would catch along the frame of the seat back up a little higher, when the headrest is pulled all the way up, that would stop it from coming all the way out. Usually just a knob or button under the fabric of the seat that you would push in to release it. Could be on either post so finess is the key here.

Is it an ION or an SL? The first year model of the ION was 2003.

If it’s an ION for sure, here is a link with some information about removing the headrests.

Dynamite?

Nuke it from orbit.

What Bell and sturm said. It’s an Ion. You’ve got to look to your right to see how fast you’re going.

Got stuck with Ions as rental cars on a couple of occasions. Gah.
