I got a new shift knob for my SATURN Vue-how do I remove/replace it? I tried turning the hting-it won’t budge!
I don’t know about the Saturn specifically, but is there a nut below it that needs to be loosened before the knob can be unscrewed?
If it’s like the other saturns, you just have to pull up really hard. Also, the techs at the local dealer will usually tell you how for free. Or go to www.saturnfans.com and look there. Best website for saturn owners.
If it’s an automatic transmission, my info indicates it’s held on with a retaining screw. If this is correct, the knob will have hole in it (possibly threaded) for said screw, or may even come with the screw in place. To access the screw on the existing knob, carefully pry the trim ring directly below the knob down off the bottom of the knob. In replacing the trim ring, press it back up onto the knob base until it snaps into place.
If it doesn’t have a retaining screw hole, it must be either screw-on or press-on. If it’s screw-on, there will be threads inside the knob. If it’s press-on, try tapping the knob off by hitting it with a rubber mallet from below.
