Is it possible and not too unethical to volunteer just to recieve crap? I just moved back into a dorm for the year, so all my crap is either at home, or got tossed/given away when I moved out of my room in May. A quick glance around reveals that I could send…er, paperclips, an empty Altoids tin, and the cardboard packing that my coffee maker came in, and that’s it.

Well, since it’s been offered: I selflessly volunteer to receive.
If we do this again come, say, mid-May, I will have oodles of stuff I don’t want to deal with, and I will try to make it up in the future.

Ninja - can you make sure that you remind me in your e-mail that rocking chair is going to send you an extra package? That’s the sort of thing that could mess me up somewhat (I’ll forget, and then assign you someone, and send out the messages and then you’ll say - no, no - no package from me! and I’ll have a big mess on my hands, so remind me, K? 
)
Ooops - I forgot to mention a rule that I thought of just now while peeing (don’t ask).
If you don’t receive a package within one month of getting your Elephantee assigned, e-mail me and let me know - I’ll contact the person. If you are that person, be advised - if your package doesn’t arrive, you’ll get two reminder e-mails from me (unless you send me an explanation - ie, in mail, overseas, totally forgot but on way now, etc) the first one will be a friendish reminder, the second one will be totally snarky. And I’ll put a pox on you. An ichy pox.
Finally, if your elephantee hasn’t received their package from you, don’t bother e-mailing me bitching about not getting yours yet.

Oh Alice, that would be the best prank ever. Organize one of these things and then make everyone send stuff to one person.
Upon taking a brief glance around my little apartment, I find a few things that would be ideal for a college student. Put me down for a package for NinjaChick, too…I’ll e–mail you as well but I’m willing to help out a poor starving college student. I mean, I remember being one.
Oh heck, even though it felt like I freecycled half my house when I moved last month, moving into a house that feels like half the size of the one we were living in then (it really is about 2/3 the size but still feels like half, especially with all the boxes of cr…er, stuff everywhere, y’know?), I suspect I could find more than enough to donate some useless cr…er, valuable possessions to someone else. Previous Doper exchanges have been a blast! So count me in. I’ll email, too, obviously.

Er…'cuz NinjaChick lives in a 7x9 dorm room? I can literally reach my bookshelf, desk, fridge, laundry hamper, and other shelves (ie, everything in my room but the closet/dresser unit) while sitting on my bed.
Stuff = good. More stuff than fits in a 7x9 room != good for NinjaChick.

Oh! Cool beans–I’m in. I got a cool PicklePicker from last year (and oddly enough, I actually use it quite a bit–obviously I eat far more pickles than I thought I did!).

I’m going to ask for only a domestic doper. With gas prices rising insanely high, and a 40 gallon gas tank, I am definately under a very sharp knife financially.
As to this - in the past I’ve arranged states into “zones” and tried to match people within the same “zone” in order to minimize shipping costs (well, except to me - one of you turkeys is going to have to ship me something to Canada…)
Anyhow - does anyone know if this actually makes a difference in cost? It does in Canada, but I have no idea about you folks down there.
