I’m cleaning my storage room this weekend, and will probably wind up with a boat load of, um, stuff that I would be more than willing to mail to someone.
If anyone else is in the same boat, or is really jonesin’ a box of crap, I’d be willing to set it up.
If anyone thinks they would be interested, post here and I’ll set it up. You know, come up with some rules and such.
Do a Google on freecycle. They are a bunch of groups that operate locally. You basically send an email to a list to offer to give something away that might otherwise go in the trash. If someone who lives in your local group wants it, they come pick it up.
But that’s not nearly as much fun as mailing it to some random person on the internet. 
I’m in. I have lots of crap around my house I have no need for. Some of it’s even nice crap, it just happens to be my mother’s taste, not mine.
Great! So even if it’s only you and I sending each other boxes of crap, White Elephant 2005 is born!

Now tonight I’m going to go home and just find random stuff to pack up … hm. I think it would also be fun to send stuff to people who have no idea who I am … random names picked from the phone book.

So, seeing as how I volunteered for this jobbie, here are the rules:
1 - Send your IRL name, screen name, and mailing address to the e-mail in my profile with “White Elephant” in the subject line, before September 17th. If it’s after that day, I won’t be able to accomodate you, but other people could possibly send you something - that’s totally up to the teeming millions.
2 - Nothing illegal, immoral or just plain wrong. If you’re questioning, it’s probably best not to send it. Also, if you’re sending breakables, make sure they’re well packed - nothing puts the damper on receiving a package better than opening it and finding it busted to pieces.
3 - If you don’t intend to send anything, or if you have a history of being really bad at following through on these sorts of things, don’t sign up.
4 - Depending on how much crap I have, I may be able to send extra packages to people who receive nothing - however, I’m always happy to have other dopers offer to do the same.
5 - If you can’t/won’t send internationally, put that in your e-mail.
6 - Uh - that’s all I can think of right now. It’s best to post a message here about participating as well as sending me the e-mail - I will post periodic lists of participants, but if it’s two places it makes it easier.

Ok, I’ve kept this quiet for a very long time now, months.
I would kill for Shirely’s chandelier. I don’t care what all of ya all think, I love it!
But at this time, I’m gonna have to pass on pretty, shiny objects. I am the ultimate non-clutter person.
I live in a furnished apartment. I could just mail off some of these brown hand towels from the early '70’s with mushrooms on them, but they’re not mine.
If I can find something worthy that I own, I’ll post later and get added to the list.
I’d love to be in on this one! Last time, I got a Chia Pet, which has always been a thing I have secretly coveted. Unfortunately, it was really old, and the seeds didn’t grow very well. IIRC, the VHS copy of Godzilla vs. King Kong I mailed off was very warmly received by the recipient.
